Dear Sir,
Who can say that " preventive health check-up, up to Rs 5000/- is inclusive of Rs 15000/- which is allowable under Sec. 80D or it is exclusive of Rs.15000/-.
That means if any one spend more than Rs.15000/- for mediclaim etc and spend
more than 5000/ for preventive health check up etc then he would be eligible for Rs.20000/- or Rs. 15000/- ? "   Which is correct? Please analyse.
Details discussion is desirable.

Dear Mr Haldar,
As per SEc.80 under IT, a sub limit of Rs.5000/ is  allowed    for Preventive Health Check Up of either the individual himself or his family members which include parents and children,it is inclusive of maximum eligible limit. It is also to be noted that the amount of Rs.5000 is the maximum.

For those less than 60 years old: When you pay health insurance premium for self or spouse or children (allowed for dependent children) you can now claim a deduction of Rs 25,000 instead of Rs 15,000 allowed earlier.

For Senior Citizens:In case of premium paid for senior citizens the deduction allowed shall be up to Rs 30,000 during FY 2015-16..

Hi all,

Please find the clarification for Sec 80 D for FY 2015-16 :

Deductions on Medical Insurance

Section 80D: Deduction in respect of Medical Insurance

For financial year 2014-15 - Deduction is available up to Rs. 15,000/- to an assessee for insurance of self, spouse and dependent children. If individual or spouse is more than 60 years old the deduction available is Rs 20,000. An additional deduction for insurance of parents (father or mother or both) is available to the extent of Rs. 15,000/- if less than 60 years old and Rs 20,000 if parents are more than 60 years old. Therefore, the maximum deduction available under this section is to the extent of Rs. 40,000/-. (From AY 2013-14, within the existing limit a deduction of up to Rs. 5,000 for preventive health check-up is available).

For financial year 2015-16 – Deduction is raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. The deduction for senior citizens is raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. For uninsured super senior citizens (more than 80 years old) medical expenditure incurred up to Rs 30,000 shall be allowed as a deduction under section 80D. However, total deduction for health insurance premium and medical expenses for parents shall be limited to Rs 30,000.
