I have been receiving complaints from members that the inbox of their email is daily flooded with messages from group members and requesting to unsubscribe from the group membership. To avoid such problem members can change the delivery settings on their own without referring the moderator. Those members who do not want to receive the messages can participate in this group through web interface . i.e. they can view the group site on the web and post their messages through web interface. Alternatively they can choose to receive daily summaries or combined update ( One email for every 25 new messages)
Members are advised to go through the following guidelines for changing their membership and delivery settings.
My membership settings
Your membership settings for a group appear when you join a group or when you click on the Membership and email settings
link at the top right of the page, from the Topics screen. These
settings allow you to choose how you, as a member of a group, will
participate in group discussions. The settings on the Membership and
email settings follow:
Display name
Your display name in this group.
Google profile
Click this checkbox to link your Google Accounts profile to your activity in this group.
Which address do you want to use for this group?
Click on this button to select a different Google email address to associate with this group.
Delivery settings for this group
Select how you would like to receive email from the group using one of the following four settings:
- Don’t send email updates: Do not receive email for group posts. Participate in this group through only the web interface.
- Send daily summaries: Receive one summary email of new activity per day.
- Send combined updates: Receive one email for every 25 new messages.
- Send me an email for every new message: Receive an email for every new post.
Update settings
Select Save to save changes, or select Cancel to revert back to
your previous settings. You can also leave this group by pressing the
Leave group link.
I hope this will help members in setting the delivery mode of messages in the way they desire.
The members having gmail account can use label and filter facility in gmail as described below.
Many of my friends have complained to me regarding clogging of
their email inbox, as daily number of messages has increased. I have
suggested them to use filter facility provided by gmail. Members can also
use that facility. For creating filter you have to go to setting menu of
gmail. You will find a gear box on right hand top corner of gmail
interface. Just click on the gearbox arrow. A window will be display
which contain caption "settings". If you click on the settings, a menu
displaying different gmail settings will appear. Click on filter menu
and then on create a new filter. In filter window you can enter subject
as "bankpensioner" and then create a filter. After creation of filter
you will be prompted to enter lable. Here you can choose the option to
create a new label. Here you can enter "bankpensioner". Then there are
other options for filtering your existing messages. In other option like
skipping inbox you can give option for skipping inbox, so that message
will go under bankpensioner label and will not appear directly in your
inbox but will appear under label "bankpensioner". After successful
creation of label , a label named "bankpensioner" will appear on the
left hand column (i.e. below the inbox,......,circles etc.). Just click
on the label, you will see all messages coming from bankpensioner group.
Filter is a very good facility provided by gmail for preserving
incoming mails in organised manner. You can apply appropriate labels and
filters to other emails which you are receiving frequently.

and filters for gmail account.
