How your bank account with internet banking facility can be hacked?

1. Hacker accesses your name and date of birth from  Facebook.

2. With these details he goes to the Income Tax site and updates them.
From there he obtains the PAN card and mobile numbers.

3. Then he gets a duplicate  PAN card made.

4. After this he lodges a mobile theft complaint in a police station.

5. With the duplicate PAN card he gets another sim card from the mobile company.

6. Through internet banking he is now ready to access your account.

7. He goes to the site and uses the forgot my password option.

8. Now he easily gets past other options and gets the
Internet banking pin on his simcard.

This information was issued by the Cyber Cell Police.

Dear Friends,
Mr Parasuraman, has just cautioned members with examples, how things are moving under online transactions. It does not mean that NET Banking facility is not secured. Only thing is we have to take lot of care, each time  .Take precautions as per directions of banks in this regard, while doing such transactions.
As we know, each and every  Banks are taking every precaution to secure the interest of their customers who are dealing in Net Banking/online transactions.Despite all these security features provided by banks, there may have some loop holes which too can be prevented by the customers while doing online transactions/net banking  strictly adhering to respective  each banks guidelines on this subject. Often this is changed to ensure secure access.

Some of the instructions often we find given by Banks are as follows:
1. Net banking/Online transactions may be strictly carried out through your personal computers/registered mobile only.
2.Avoid using computers in public place /net cafes.
3.Use virtual key boards while entering IDs and Passwords.
4.Create a strong password as banks usually suggests.(Do not write down without care /share passwords to others)
5.Banks may have second layer of security features like One Time Password (OTP) sent through your registered mobile or specific pictures you have already registered ,to confirm.
5.Take every care as per your banks directions while carrying out following transactions specifically:-
  • -Transfer amount from your Bank account to same  Bank account holders
  • -Transfer from your  Bank account to any other Bank's account  under  RTGS & NEFT
  • -Visa Card Payments
  • -Third Party Demand Draft through NetBanking
  • -DirectPay / Online Shopping. (Pl note that there are hundreds of transactions one can do through net banking. So precaution is always good)
  • 6.If happens to observe any unusual thing while doing such transactions inform the bank instantly to avoid any damage.

Dear Shri Mohan,

Thanks for the details of precautions to be taken asper Banks' directions in matters relating to online transactions.

I wonder how  those issuing duplicate PAN and SIM issue them without
any cross verifications/ checking.

DEAR FRIENDS                         02/03/2016

I feel that you  all missed one safeguard link in a/c hacking. Ref Point No. 5.

ONCE A DUPLICATE SIM IS ISSUED, YOUR (ORIGINAL SIM) SIM AUTOMATICALLY GETS CANCELLED.  Once your SIM dies, naturally you approach the SIM company to enquire the fate. Immediately you come to know of issuance of second SIM and you can block it with in no time.  THEN FOLLOW UP THE SITUATION AND  CHANGE YOUR BANK KEY NUMBER.

Please clarify if I am wrong

i am a vijaya bank pensioner who uses our bank"s net banking.Even
though the modus operandi of hackers is alarming,i like to share my
experience to you all which shows that we need not panic, even though
we have to to take reasonable care.
1}--in Facebook ensure in your settings that only your confirmed
friends can look into your profile.
2}if possible disfied theo not give your real d o b in your profile.
3)in case actual d o b has been given be discreet in choosing friends.
4)my experience shows that when i wanted a duplicate sim with
airtel, the customer care asked me searching questions about my most
called contact, last calls made, approximate balance in the sim.after
he found my answers satisfactory, duplicate sim was issued.
5)when i contacted my bank for resetting my internet p.w, after
satisfying the routine quieries,i was asked when the a/c was
opened,last date of credit/debit and the respective amounts-after i
satisfied the bank with correct replies, the duplicate pw for internet
banking was sent to my mobile.
5)some banks, i believe sent your duplicate passwords directly to the
parent branch, where tha a/cholder has to collect in person.
therefore we need not panic with internet banking provided we take
reasonable care

Dear Suresh Bhat Sir,
I am unable to fully understand your suggestion. you mean we are to be careful about duplicate SIM while our net
banking account is in force. and further the account password to be changed. and then new SIM  to be sought
from the mobile service provider.as the duplicate SIM is cancelled. in other words, new cell number should be
taken instead of old cell number. so Password  of net banking account to be changed after furnishing new cell
number to the Bank replacing the old mobile number for safety.
Please elucidate .
With Regards,
S.S.R.Murthy

Dear Srirama Murthy Sir

Once again I am confused with your version.

What I mean to say that once an application is made for a duplicate SIM by third party, your original SIM dies. Immediately
1) inform the banker about loss of your SIM and stop net Banking.
2) Ask the Old SIM provider in writing (along with your ID Proof) to stop issuing new SIM . SIM PROVIDER HAS TO ACCEPT YOUR REQUEST AS SIM IS IN YOUR NAME.
3) You can buy new SIM and update to Bank and go for mobile banking.

 4) By giving police complaint, you can try to trace the culprits
