For information:

As per Ministry of Labour, reason for downward trend of index number in Jan'22 is explained as below:

"The maximum downward pressure in current index came from Food & Beverages group contributing 0.82 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Fish fresh, Mustard Oil, Apple, Carrot, French-been, Garlic, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Lady’s finger, Onion, Peas, Potato, Radish, Tomato, etc. are responsible for the fall in index. However, this decrease was checked by House rent, Rice, Wheat, Buffalo-Milk, Goat meat/Mutton, Orange, Beetroot, Chilli dry, Cooked Meals,  etc. putting upward pressure on the index."

Since pre 2002 pensioner's DA is not fully neutralised, whether increase in CPI is beneficial or decrease in CPI is beneficial? My thinking is decrease in CPI is beneficial.

Sir,

You are right. The decrease in CPI is more beneficial to the Pre-2002 retirees, if the inflation is also negative.

But, then rate of interest for fixed deposits also would fall. Our gross pension would be around Rs.6,000 to Rs 7,000 pm. The amount I had in 2001. But, do not worry. This would not happen. Ours is a developing country.
