The old pension scheme is to be restored for Govt employees in Rajasthan. This will put pressure on state BJP Govts also to follow suit and may also yield electoral benefits to Congress but I feel it may face stiff opposition from RBI as the same would have adverse consequences for the economy as a whole especially the state finances.

Rajasthan Budget 2022: CM Ashok Gehlot announces return of old pension scheme for government employees

Presenting a populist Budget ahead of assembly elections in the state scheduled for next year, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today announced plans to restore the old pension scheme for the state government employees who joined the service after January 1, 2004. The Congress chief minister also announced to withdraw the state government’s 2017 decision to cut the salary of the employees. Gehlot said that the employees who were appointed after January 1, 2004 will also get the benefits of the old pension scheme.

“We all know that the employees associated with government services should feel secure about the future, only then they can make their invaluable contribution towards good governance during the service period. Therefore, I announce to implement old pension scheme from the next year for all the employees appointed on or after January 1, 2004,” said Gehlot.

Yes. Karnataka CM also assured that it will allow NPS scheme pensioners to revert to the old pension scheme. Old pension scheme of the government is very attractive with periodical revision of Basic and DA without any discrmination.
Bank employees who are NPS subscribers should think before demanding an old pension scheme as there is no periodical updation and no pension benefits on special allowance in old pension scheme. Moreover our UFBU leaders are experts in division and discrimination. There is no guarantee they will protect pension benefits for all.
Even Pension updation is agreed there is no guarantee it will be applied equally to all pensioners. UFBU may agree to exclude one group or other from benefit.
