Dear Perumalji,

Staff Welfare Fund mainly takes care the welfare of the serving employees. Does it serve any purpose for the retired employees without discrimination on the nature of retirement?

Dear sirs,

Government of India has advised IBA on revised norms for the Staff Welfare Fund in Public Sector Banks as follows:
Category
3% of Net Profit with Maximum ceiling per year
State Bank of India
Rs. 100 Crores
PSBs with business mix of over Rs.3,00,000 crores and employee strength above 30,000
Rs. 25 Crores
PSBs with business mix of over 1,50,000 crores to 3,00,000 crores and employee strength of 20,000 to 30,000
Rs. 20 Crores
Other PSBs
Rs. 15 Crores
(For the purpose of calculation the average of business figures for the previous two years may be reckoned)

It is further stipulated that:
(i)     No cash payments shall be made to employees except for medical and educational purposes.
(i)        Banks may consider the option of Group Insurance Policies for both serving and retired employees instead of direct payment of benefit from the Fund.
(ii)      Each Year the Banks may devise a Scheme for Appointment of funds with the prior approval of their Board of Directors, as per specific needs of the Bank.
Detailed circular to all Banks is yet to be recieved from IBA.

Dear sir,
Gov't has not advised the Banks to deny the Medical Facilities to those other than the SUPERANNUATED. It is only some Individual Banks who continue to discriminate the Retired into superannuated and non-superannuated or pensioners and PF-Retirees, vrs or svrs etc.
All the Retirees' Fora have demanded extension of Medical Facilities to all the RETIRED without any discrimination.
AIBRF has demanded a Uniform Medical Facility Policy (like Group Insurance) to all irrespective of their mode of Exit.

I would also having the same doubt whether it is applicable only to the serving employee or it is extended to the special VRS people also.

Staff welfare fund takes care of both i.e. existing as well as retired employees. The have to make provision @ 1.5 to 2% of their profit for welfare of retired employees.

dear perumal,
staff welfare fund is created from the  p&l a/c of the respective bank and all the staff members  who worked during  their period are eligible for the contribution. we people worked more than 25-30 yearsare  eligible for the  same.the dividing of  superannuated and  non- superannuated  is not correct.earlier it  was 5% from p&l a/c. after issuance of  pension to eligible staffs, there shouldnot be any indiscrimination
