While I do not Know the current position, in 2000 there was an unequal  distribution of staff.For the same business and number of accounts in a branch of west bengal, there were 26 employees, whereas in the Bengaluru branch there were only 12 employees. Officers from Karnataka posted in the North. East Indian states manage with a little bit of Hindi. But of late in the south and some other states customers are demanding that Bank officers should communicate in local languages. Recently an SBI officer had   a problem with a customer as she could not speak in Kannada, and she was transferred to another place.

There are practical difficulties in distribution of staff.
