'THE CLUB NEEDS YOU ! HELP US GET 1500 '
Over the last few years I have written some very important press releases on behalf of the BCFCSA and BCFC including Welsh Cup Finals, European games fundraising etc etc but none are as important as this one I write today.
As you may be aware, the Club were recently fined by the FAW for £10000 with £5000 being suspended until the end of next season. The fine was imposed after a handful of the Bangor City Supporters entered the field of play at the Welsh Cup Final. The Association do not condone the actions of those involved, however we do feel that the fine was excessive and that the FAW have treated the Club in unfairly.
The FAW were responsible for the arrangements for the match including the venue, time of kick-off and the stewarding and Bangor City FC had no power to change or influence any of the arrangements made by the FAW. Many supporters feel aggrieved that the Club should be fined so heavily and that the FAW have failed to accept responsibility for the inadequacy of their arrangements and supporters have also questioned why Llanelli were not charged and fined when a number of their non-playing staff entered the field of play.
Supporters were also unhappy with the gestures that one of their players made to Bangor Fans and for the actions by the Llanelli Manager ,ex- Welsh International Peter Nicholas, for appearing to tell his goalkeeper to go back to the ground after having got up after he had been allegedly bumped into by a supporter, all of which TV playback clearly shows.
One thing that the BCFC supporters do agree with is that the FAW have over-reacted and unfairly thrown the book at Bangor City Football Club.
Everyone who has a love for Bangor City Football Club, be it young or old, now need to make a stand and show the FAW and the rest of Welsh football that we are in no way going to crack as a Club and that we have the biggest and best supporters in Welsh Football.
On the 16th August we have our first game of the season at home against defeated Cup Finalists Llanelli Town. Following a meeting of the Association members it was agreed that the best possible outcome of all this, and to put the Club in the right direction for the rest of the season, was to do everything in our power to persuade as many of the Bangor public to turn up at Farrar Road for this game.
Our target is to get over 1500 fans through the turn styles on the 16th August. If we can get 1500 to travel all the way to Newtown then surely we could get the same number of supporters to travel the average mile to Farrar Road. Also it would be great to show the full timers of Llanelli that the win in the Welsh Cup final was no fluke. Who knows, if we beat them and have a good run we could even get a regular 1000 watching the Blues, How good would that be. It would certainly inspire the eleven city players on the field.
Forget the past Welsh Cup Finals, Wembley , Europe and any other famous City games you may remember, this is the one we need to get into the diaries. This is a massive season for Nev Powell and his team and to be challenging for the title we need your famous support to turn up and to get right behind the cause. We need to show the same support for this league game as we do for finals and Europe.
One important outcome from getting 1500 fans through the turn styles is that the gate receipts will go a long way towards paying off some of the fine imposed on the Club. We will make the first game of the season a special one to remember. It will be ‘The game that brought all City supporters together as one.’ We have some fresh idea’s for match day entertainment so come along and see for your self what’s going on.
With that said I, on behalf of all the City regulars, make a plea for you to make one special effort for what could possibly be our last ever first home game of the season at Farrar Road. Bring your whole family, bring all your friends, spread the word, THIS IS THE BIG ONE ! Be there, Be part of the Nevillution . . . .KEEP THE FAITH !
