If you are renewing your photocard driving licence with a new photo, and you are unable to use our online services, you can do this quickly and easily at participating Post Office branches. Check if you are eligible to use this service. By using this service, you can expect your driving licence to be issued within 5 days.

Online, you need a Government Gateway ID to apply and it takes about 15 minutes to get through the process, at the end of which, you need to cut your existing driving licence in two and return it to the DVLA in Swansea.

You must notify the DVLA of your new address whether you hold a full or provisional licence. There are a couple of options for changing your address on your driving licence; you can apply online or by post. The current drivers licence fee for address change is 14. You can pay by Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Electron, or Delta debit or credit card. The service is free for people over 70 or those with a medical short period licence.
Note: The DVLA try to send new photocard driving licences within three (3) weeks. But, it can take longer if they need to check any medical details or personal information. Allow at least 3 weeks before contacting the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.

There are no extra steps if you want to update the address on your provisional driving licence. Simply follow the instructions above. Just like with a full driving licence, you can change the address on your provisional licence as a learner driver online or via the post.
