Bangladesh starts manufacture of computers

Bangladesh is to become a manufacturing centre for laptop computers. From next year, computers costing US$175 will enter the market in Bangladesh, where the machines will be manufactured in cooperation with Malaysian company, TFT. The State-owned telecom company Bangladesh Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Ltd has signed an agreement with TFT to put the first laptops onto shelves in June. TFT will provide technical assistance while BTSS will build up production volumes to put out 10,000 laptops per month.
