URGENT - Call for applications: Grants to support Global South youth participants at COP18 and COY8

Hello everyone,
 
I am happy to announce that thanks to the Norwegian Government, YOUNGO has funding for the upcoming UNFCCC talks in Doha and are opening up applications for Global South Youth to attend.
 
This funding has been provided with the aim of promoting active participation of youth representatives from developing countries to the COP18/CMP8.
 
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the International Youth Climate Movement (IYCM) in engaging with the UNFCCC process and help in finding climate solutions.

What is the opportunity?
 
The chance to attend the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Doha, Qatar from Monday, 26 November to Friday, 9 December 2012 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. A Conference of Youth (COY) is also taking place the weekend before the talks which will be a fantastic way to meet colleagues in the movement.
 
You will be able to attend the talks and work within YOUNGO to positively influence the IYCM and the climate negotiations.
 
Who can apply?

Young people eligible to apply for this grant support must fulfill the following criteria:

- Be a citizen of a Global South country and hold its nationality when applying
- Be 18 years or older on 26 November 2012

- Be an active member of an environmental and/or climate focused organization or group
- Be available to arrive in Doha on 23 November 2012 and leave on 09 December 2012
- Demonstrate strong understanding of the role youth plays in achieving a safer climate
- Demonstrate strong understanding or passion to learn about the UNFCCC process 
- Provide a support letter from the organization or from any other relevant referee
- Have a valid personal passport (due to time priority will be given to passport holders)
- Not be a relative or employee of IndyAct

- Not be a relative of a former or current YOUNGO Focal Point
- Commit to actively participate in all activities the Youth Constituency will be organizing in Doha and related to the COY8, the COP18 as well as the final wrap-up
- Commit to respect the Code of Conduct of YOUNGO as well as the Guidelines for the participation of representatives of NGOs at the UNFCCC meetings (

- Commit to write a 4-5 pages report of participation at COY8 and COP18 and submit it to YOUNGO within one week after the end of the conference in Doha
- Act in a respectful, responsible and sensitive manner at all times
-Treat fellow members of YOUNGO appropriately and with respect to their cultures and beliefs at all times.
 
How to Apply?
 
Fill out the attached application, Appendix 1, form explaining why you are suitable for this opportunity to attend the talks.
Please fill out the attached forms and return to young...@gmail.com. along with a support letter and copy of your passport.
The Application Form and Commitment Form are attached to this email.
The application deadline is midnight on Friday the 9th of November which is this Friday. Late applications will not be considered. Following the deadline date a Selection Committee will meet and the results will be announced via this forum. We count on your full support as usual to help us spread the word and implement a transparent process.
 
This is a fantastic opportunity and it would be fantastic if all of YOUNGO can promote and share this with any suitable candidates.
This is a great achievement and testament to the hard work members of YOUNGO have put into ensuring this opportunity have been created.

Please do not forget to send your applications by e-mail as a word.doc or pdf.doc to the Selection Committee at young...@gmail.com.with subject ‘’Application for Global South Youth Grants at COP18 + Name of your Country’’ by the 10 November 2012 at midnight GMT. Remember to include a supporting letter from your organization, an electronic copy of your valid passport as well as the commitment form filled and signed in by you. The commitment form is attached to this call as Appendix 2.
A completed application will only be considered with all the following:

Completed application form – Appendix 1
Completed Commitment form – Appendix 2
Support letter
Copy of your passport.

Any applications without one of the above or send after Friday the 9th of November will not be accepted. Return completed applications to young...@gmail.com or they will not be read.
