WHAT THE OPPORTUNITY ALLOWS:
The aim of the Virtual Participation room is to enable virtual
participation of youth during COP18 in order to mobilise public
support at the local and national level. This
is a really great chance for our movement to engage with those not in Doha so
hopefully we can make the best use of it with everyone’s help and creativity. The
room will have a video conference equipment, where people from other parts
of the world can call in and interact with the people in the room. The
room will allow youth groups inside the negotiations to interact with
Youth from around the world outside the negotiations. There is the
potential for a live video feed to be included within the room that will be on
the UN website, I will update everyone on this if it is confirmed as it could
be another great tool for us to make use of.
We also don't know for how many hours the room will be available each day
at the moment. So we would request that those applying for use of this
excellent resource be mindful of other groups wishing to use the room and keep
proposals to a reasonable time length.
NEED TO MAXIMIZE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE WIDER MOVEMENT:
We are putting out this call now so that we can receive proposals and try to
maximise the use of the room, avoid scheduling conflicts, and give fair
representation across YOUNGO to individuals and groups who would like to make
use of this resource. But please understand that we might not be able to
schedule everyone, if there are a lot of applications and many of them are for
the same times of the day. The room can also be used for the delegation meeting
but first priority will be given to virtual participation activities.
HOW TO SIGN UP TO USE THE VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION ROOM:
If your organisation is interested to use this room please register your
interest here.
We remind everyone that this is a fantastic resource to engage with
those not in Doha and to keep the rest of the movement connected to YOUNGO at
COP. So please make an effort to use the Virtual Participation room and
strengthen the movement.
WHAT EVENTS WE CAN ARRANGE:
We can use it for organisation’s own business (like calling back to your
own country to engage with youth) and also for wider YOUNGO business (as a
youth Constituency agreeing to engage on open calls with youth around the
world, using the UN website to promote, and provide a creative
session/workshop). The Secretariat have been very helpful in setting this up
and working with us so it would be awesome if we were bearing this in mind when
thinking how we can engage people with COP.

Jamie Peters
