Hi Folks,

I am doing a research on identifying the pains that startups face, with IIM Bangalore. The intention of the research is to identify what the pains are and then create an ecosystem where these pains are resolved.

The way we have decided to go about it is as follows:-

* We have a list of common issues that entrepreneurs face while starting up. This is a result of surveying over 40-50 startups.
* We have identified the top 6 (most common) pains.
* We want entrepreneurs to compare 1 pain against another. We will eventually find out what is the relative ranking of pain points by applying a mathematical technique called Analytic Hierarchy Process

So we can have a Ruby on Rails website that asks an entrepreneur to fill in his/her details - which go to the database. We list the top 6 pain and compare each against each other - So a total of 6*(6-1)/2 comparisons. We then use the entrepreneur's (end user's) input to calculate the hierarchy of pain points.

There is a lot of scope for quality programming here.
* Implementing the algorithm.
* Ajax, we can also provide a rich JS interface.
* Implementing Tags. The entrepreneurs can click on existing pain-points (shown in a tagged form) or add their new pain points, for our reference.
* And a lot many opportunities. For instance we can display our results int the form of colorful graphs using Gruff or others.

Would any of you like to build this site? I intend to build/test it and make it go live by May 18th 2400 Hrs. I can't do it alone in this much time so I have come here asking for help. Its a fun thing and we can probably collaborate online and build up various modules. You can take it as a community project, something you are doing to make a difference in the lives of entrepreneurs.

AHP can be solved with open source Linear Programming tools like LP solvers which are available in web...
