The Salvation Day at Sant Nirankari Mission: A true
festival of freedom
Bangalore, 14th August 2013
One of the
prominent meanings of Salvation is freedom of a soul from affects of it’s’
actions. According to religious beliefs, souls are enslaved in the cycles of
birth and rebirth on continuum as results of their actions (sins or good
actions). However, a soul’s ultimate goal is to merge in the super soul (the
ultimate source of every creation visible/invisible) and this confluence of a
soul with the infinite entity of the formless god (termed as Holy Spirit, Allah,
God) is true freedom of a soul from worldly cycles of ignorance. Sant Nirankari
Mission (SNM) celebrates Salvation Day, also called as Mukti Parv Diwas, in
remembrance of saints who led an exemplary life to surpass every obstacle that
came across during their freedom struggle against worldly slavery. This
festival is means of displaying innumerable inspiration sources from the recent
history of SNM amongst its’ devotees for us to imbibe these experiential
learning in day to day lives.
Coincidently
this celebration coincides with Indian Independence Day too signifying
political freedom of our country from the shackles of foreign rule. Ignorance
about true meaning of salvation on surface of mind forms a prejudice to link
salvation with physical death of human body. However, this misconception is
washed away with knowledge of the formless god by the grace of the true master.
This journey of freedom struggle which begins when a devotee attains God
Knowledge by submitting to the holy feet of the true master, continues with
implementation of the master’s teachings in day to day life, remembering the
formless god every moment, clearing one’s mind of all worldly confusions and
merges his soul in this formless god losing its distinction from this divine
entity, is the mission achieved. This freedom is equal to what Arjun attained
by submitting to the saviour of that time, Shri Krishna. This freedom is
matched with what was attained by Sant Kabir, Sant Mira Bai, and Sant Ravidas
when they led through similar struggles.
Words may not
suffice to enlist all saints who successfully accomplished salvation while
still living physical life under the holy guidance of our beloved true master.
An attempt is made to remember the life that was lived by Baba Sajjan Singh Ji
who was born as son of Yugpurush Baba Avataar Singh Ji Maharaja and Jagat Mata
Budhwanti Ji on 18th August 1932. This is premonition that a baby
when in mother’s womb is well connected with this formless god but when he
enters the world and witnesses the extent of nature, he cries as his connection
breaks from the formless god. Then the baby completely forgets this formless
god and is lost in the worldly attractions. However, this wasn’t the case for
Baba Sajjan Sigh Ji who when entered this world, was received with holy
presence of saints and first voice that he heard was that of “Dhan Nirankar”.
This divine soul spent around 16 years of his life on earth but achieved
spiritual milestones worth that of centuries. He led a life of true gurusikh right
from his childhood till adulthood, worshiping Yugpurush Baba Avataar Singh Ji
as the formless god.
The five
principles of Sant Nirankari Mission were created by Baba Sajjan Singh Ji on
the command of Baba Ji. Baba Sajjan Singh Ji also suggested for the first time to
establish Sant Nirankari Mandal to facilitate appropriate functioning of
Babaji’s mission of spreading god knowledge to every part of world. SNM was
established on 24th September 1948 and wish of the great saint Baba
Sajjan Singh Ji was fulfilled. This great saint is also credited with creating
structure for publications of Nirankari Literature for benefit of all saints.
Baba Sajjan Singh Ji relinquished his body on 29th August 1948. In
the words of Yugpurush Baba Avataar Singh Ji Maharaja, “Sajjan Singh Ji while
living in his body was integral part of this formless god and after diminishing
of the illusory body, he is submerged in this formless god. The illusion of
physical body is gone. Completion of life journey of such saints is not to be taken
as sorrowful event rather we are thankful to the formless god for successful
life of a saint.” A congregation was
organized on 26th September 1948 to take inspiration from the life
of Baba Sajjan Singh Ji which took shape of 1st Nirankari Sant
Samagam at Delhi. The annual International Sant Nirankari Samagam held every
year in the month of October- November today is connected with the life of this
great saint.
