Stage Secty mahapursh reminded in the Sangat today that Mataji recently said that we should not use Mobile phone in Sangat, no vibration mode, no silent mode rather turn it off completely.
It must be 5-7 weeks ago when Mataji said this in Her discourse. Stage Secty mahapursh was reminding us all that we need to adhere to these guidelines. Luckily, I had turned off my mobile phone at the entrance to hall today when Sewadal mahapursh had requested me. So I was fully compliant with the guideline (at least I thought so!).
While I was busy in self praise, my memories took me 11-12 years back when we were planning for Babaji’s visit in Bangalore. For a cultural in-house event, we had prepared one game show - Kaun banega gurcharno ka daas. On lines of KBC, there were some questions prepared for participants, all related to devotion and how does a devotee live.
The final winning question was ‘what should we do with our mobile phones when we sit in Sangat?’. The options were keep it as is, in silent mode, in vibrate mode or turn it off. Since it was the time when mobile phones were still not very popular and not too much distractions, we were confused between whether silent mode is better or turning off, so rather than deciding answer ourselves we thought of keeping this question with call a friend lifeline where we can call some learned and elderly saint who can guide.
We were confused as to whom should we call for this lifeline when this question comes near the end of game show, we wanted to keep the call formal and clear in the message. Someone suggested since Babaji were on stage and Pujya Mataji were in Delhi, why not connect call with Pujya Mataji in this lifeline. So it was! Everything got arranged, mahapursh requested Pujya Mataji for Her time. She kindly agreed.
On the day, in the show, final question comes, a call is connected to Pujya Mataji. Vijay Mishra ji is seated as the final participant, Puneet Arora ji reads the question to Pujya Mataji - all as per the plan. Question finishes, Puneet ji is about to read the options to Pujya Mata ji but before he can do that She Herself says “We should turn it off”. Every one is glad to hear Pujya Mata ji on phone, Her clear and steadfast message. Show ends with namaskar at Babaji’s feet by Vijay Mishra ji.
A reminder of this episode brought me back to introspections, I who was seated today feeling happy that I was following the guideline (after Sewadal Mahapursh requested me), had actually forgotten the guideline which was given to me decade ago and isn’t new to me. Perhaps I mistook the guideline that came in the game show as mere part of the game show.
The time moved on, physical forms changed, yet the guideline remained the same. May I now try to imbibe this and many other guidelines which I may have heard but never gave importance to. And while I make an attempt to imbibe, if you see me not following any, request you to please remind and correct me, like I hear mahapursh are doing these days when someone they see has their phones turned on in Sangat.
