Hi Guys,
We are planning a trip to shivasamudram falls.
As this is a long weekend we plan to move out on friday
This is the plan:

Friday evening: 6-7 PM
Reach malavalli: by 12-2AM:
Get a nap and start off in the morning: 5-6 AM
Reach shivasamudram: 7AM in the morning-I think it will be ideal to
reach this time

Then we can choose the following alternatives:

1.Then spend the day over there and then start back at around 4-5 and
reach bangalore at around 00:00
2. Or go ahead to mysore, grab a bite and board a bus back in case
people are done for the day (so 65 kms to mysore)

I think its one of the best places around bangalore. Has one of the
most breathtaking views especially in this season. Boasts to be the
second largest falls in Asia/India and the 16th largest in the world.

Here are details by some other groups/sites (just to get you
interested):

http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotos-g297628-d1204461-w2-Shivasamudram_Falls-Bangalore_Karnataka.html

So we are 3 already:

Join in. We need a big bunch :)

Interesting. What all is needed for a night ride like this?

My first night ride too... but I guess we need to have a front light,
a jacket (cause it will be chilly). I guess those are the requirements
above the normal stuff (something to eat/water etc etc)

Although have been out for only one real long night ride, that too on
a well lit road, and with no tail light/headlight, totally missed both
of them on the ride from the safety perceptive. So would say grab tail
lights too, you would not regret it ... Noticed in the snaps of
yercaud trip that one of them had this real bright fluorescent jacket
kind of thing that cops wear in the night .. they stand out real well
in the vehicle light...

have fun guys..

hey nishant,
Are you planning to take the kanakapura road? if so, be really careful man.. there are a lot of tank bunds and such open lakes which pose a serious threat. there will be high speeding traffic too. My advice would be to start off saturday early morning ( around 3:00AM from merida junction) and reach the falls by 9-10  at the max??

Cheers,
Vijay

Hi Jiraiya,

Its my first post on BBC. Have been following the community for around
a month now. I am new to Bangalore, and also to cycling. I hardly did
2 km of cycling a day till March this year. At IIT Kanpur, a 65 Km
cycling trip was organized as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration.
It was my first time at such a distance and it was awesome. The cycle
I used for this trip was not in a good condition and was pretty heavy,
thank god it didn't puncture on the way :).
After that trip I made two successive trips 35 km each around Kanpur.
I must tell you that views around Kanpur(Kanpur dehat) were
unbelievable, just too good.

Now that I am in Bangalore I would love to be part of such trips. I
have a BSA SLR, which I bought recently(couldn't afford a high-end
bike right now). Will I make you guys slow if I join?

Plus, you can get food and stuff more easily if you cycle in the
morning.

hi
**i have not decided yet.**
And I'll be on a single speed bike. I was looking at the map. And on
the way to the falls it is more downhill than uphill. I think, I'll be
in for going ahead to Mysore and then coming back by bus :)
I'd seriously ask you guys, is it worth trying on a single speed bike?
(If yes, then I'll catch up at the Hebbal bus stop.)

Hey Varun,
I replied on the mail chain too.
So I would say you can might be try renting a geared bike.
And as of coming back , I think cycling back might be a better idea,
if effort is the issue (cause Mysore is uphill-60Kms and bangalore is
110 kms flat). Though this can be worked out accordingly at what time
we leave the place

We all ride to enjoy our cycling experiences. My 2 cents tho every1 of you know safety comes by deafult yet to reiterate night righting is unsafe because of vehicles and the fear of unknown ( which sometimes becomes real ).

Hi Jiraiya,

I think I'll have to miss out on the long distance trips for a while.
I can't buy one for another few months and I don't want to hire one(it
doesn't make sense to me, because I'll be buying one a few months from
now). All the best for your trip and good luck.
