Hi Guys,

Any idea if a Schrader/Presta pump works on a Dunlop valve tube (which comes in most Indian low-cost cycles)?

I had to change my Schrader tube to a Dunlop valve tube when I had a puncture. I was wondering whether my Btwin mini-pump (which has both Schrader and Presta attachments) would be of any use to pump through a Dunlop valve. Any thoughts on this ?

My pump from Decathlon is switchable - handles Dunlop in Presta mode.

Hi Sunil,

Thanks for the answer, but is it the MNP100 mini-pump or a normal floor pump?
I am a bit apprehensive about the MNP100 handling the pressure from a Dunlop Valve (it handles Schrader excellently, and has a Presta attachment-head too). Any thoughts on this?

@Vasu: Yeah man, googled it first :-P But I just want to know if anyone has experience on this first-hand.
I really don't want to deflate my tire, trying to get the Presta valved mini-pump to fit into a Dunlop valve. (I live pretty far away from the nearest cycle shop).

Cheers,
Sudhir

Folks from Decathlon (Sarjapura Rd. one) didn't know that the universal valve adaptor is "universal". As per them, the conversion was a fixed.

However, I've attempted filling my son's BMX tires using the hand-pump (the ultra cheap Rs.199/- pump from Decathlon), which uses Dunlop valves, but I use a brass adapter, which converts Dunlop to Schrader (available for Rs.5 - 10/- from cycle shops), and looks like this.
In fact, I've used the hand-pump to fill even a completely deflated tire, and it works, though it takes some considerable effort. The only limitation of pumps is the amount of back-pressure they are able to overcome, and not the quantity of air they can fill, so I find the warnings to that effect (that pump cannot be used to fill a completely deflated tire), completely baseless.
