I am planning to do a longish 200K+ ride next Saturday, in preparation
for the upcoming brevet season.

I live in Whitefield, and the ride route is pretty much open. I'll be
trying to average ~20 for the practice ride.

If anyone is interested, please post a reply.

Thanks in advance,
Uday

Uday,

As of now looks like I can make, unless and until something comes up urgent in last minute.

Are you open to do Mandya and back (for you from white field it will be 200+ ) on regular Mysore road.

What time are planning to start, you are on hybrid right.

Hi Anil,
I rode on Mysore Road 2 times and both times it was a harrowing experience. There is so much traffic (it was Sunday morning, not even saturday) and the big vehicles were constantly pushing me to the gravel .... I rode upto kadu mane and came back. The return journey was much more peaceful with much less traffic driving into Bangalore on Sunday morning ... how do u manage on this road???

I have seen Kanakapura road to be a great road for biking with the one disadvantage that while coming back, it is a lot of uphill .... but still, this is a good scenic ride with much less traffic.

Sarjapur Road and the Dommasandra - Hosur connecting road seem to the best in my limited experience ...

The worst road by far is Bannerghatta Road with its horrendous traffic!

+1. I've ridden the Mysore road route a few times and each time I wonder what is wrong with me. The uphill ride on both Kanakpura road and Mysore road are over rated though.

Hi Satya,

Checkout this route to Bannerghatta, no need to worry about traffic. You can ride without much traffic and you connect bannerghatta road near to Tulip Resort after NICE toll.

Let me know if you need more details.

satya,

i personally like the regular Mysore road, even though it has too much traffic.  It is a superb rolling terrain and it is four lane road (kanakapura road is many a times i find it very risky, no road divider, scenery is okay....) makes it so much fun to ride.  What i like is the eat out on this stretch.

I must have done few thousands of kms on this road.  Ride to janapadaloka and have breakfast and returning makes it a good Century ride (a good breakfast at 50 km mark...ie Janapada loka).

You guys should do the Kolar road. Wide, dual carriageway, great
surface and nil traffic. Woody's at 60km mark is a nice place for
refilling water, and I think I saw some CCDs also en route.

First, thanks everybody for the route suggestions.

Anil: Thanks.
Mandya is ok. I'll prefer a quieter road like Kanakapura Road. I am
open to the other bigger roads as well (Tumkur, Hyderabad, OM, etc)
We can use the opportunity to explore some of the nearby landmarks
(Lepakshi, Jayamangali,

Start time: 5 am at my place. We can plan accordingly.

Bike: I have both hybrid and roadie. Will go wth ur choice. My
preference is roadbike.

Any more partners?

I stay almost in the exact opposite of the city, and will need to
travel far to the startiing point. That shouldn't be an issue. We
change the route to have Mysore Road/Bangalore University to be the
starting point.

Will figure another route out in the north and post.

Other suggestions welcome.

Excellent idea, except that it'll be 250+ if we account for the ride
from and to the startpoint.

Nevertheless, we can think of modifying it so that it is less than
200.

Hi,

I have prepared route map and elevation profile which is ~170kms from Magadi Rd-Nice Rd junction, remaining 30kms can add up considering our meeting pt and  individual's total trip!

Route map: http://goo.gl/maps/J0nz

But however we have to minimise our time bar if we decide our starting pt.

What do u guys think?

I am also in for the ride. I will be on a hybrid. I am from HSR Layout.

Another route suggestion from me would be
Harohalli - Jigani - Anekal - Hosur - Bagalur - Malur - Kolar - Hoskote - Bangalore..

Around 205km round trip from Majestic. The advantage is that it leaves bangalore from one direction and enters back from the opposite direction, so everybody can do the same distance if we can plan meeting points accordingly..

Also, people who want to participate in BBCh will get a taste of the Harohalli - Jigani climb too.. :)

Good work!
We can chose the intersection of Banashankari Ring Road and Mysore

Can anyone suggest a good landmark, which could serve as the meeting
point.

If we run short of time, we need to have a Plan B,
like we can skip Maddur, and do Huliyadurga to Ramanagara directly.

Could you suggest a common starting point for everybody? Banashankari?

One concern is that a majority of the route is highway, Kolar to
Bangalore.

Yes, Banashankari bus stand would be a good start point.

However, I see that my map had not captured the Harohalli-Jigani climb correctly. After I correct it it is 203km starting from Banashankari ending at KR Puram. (Everybody will have to add nearly 20 kms to and from start / end points..) So slightly more than expected. And yes, we would be riding through the highway in the evening time.. :( I am open to any route though.. Just a suggestion.. :)

Hi,

This was Georg's route not mine. I just plotted it on gmaps.
Kanva reservoir is a nice place to take a dip. Try hitting close to the dam instead of somewhere alone the shore. The water isnt very deep there.
TG Halli- It'll be a littlr tough to get to it as most of the access to the dam is cut off by barbed wire. But there is an approach to it which is 1.5kms long, downhill and offroad. I'll map it for you if you guys are interested.
Note that point C-D is off-road! Hybrids should do fine. Its a single trail and really brilliant at sunrise! Try avoiding Mysore road. The inner roads are much better

Before Nayandhalli signal (close to a km before that....) Is PES IT Engineering, probably a good landmark.

Nayandhalli is too big, too many diversion, un imaginable dust.

Uday,

It is better to meet at Magadi road ORR intersection, so that the people from North need not come all the way down.

Shreeju

Anil,

Considering that the other guys will have to travel towards
Banashankari, can you suggest another point, enroute from Nayandahalli
towards Magadi Road.

Thanks,

Naresh:

I will revise the final start point to somewhere near the ORR-Magadi
Road junciton and post it.

If NIUM (National Institute of Unani Medicine) is okay with everyone,
we can make it there.

Please have the BRM cue sheet (https://sites.google.com/site/iiscrando/
2011-2012-brevets/nov-2011-huliyurdurga-200/cuesheet), for your
reference.

I may not be able to update the post for the next few hours. So,
please consider this final.

See you all, tomorrow. Hoping for a great ride.
If you are unable to make it, please sms me.

Thanks everyone,
Uday

It was a nice ride through scenic routes. We even decided to name one of the roads after Uday.. ;)

Thanks Uday, Karthik, Vageesh and Naresh for the wonderful company.

Brajesh had to turn back early on because a stupid Tempo Traveler driver hit him from behind in a non-moving traffic block. Luckily nothing happened to him, just a bend in the rear wheel. Hope your bike is doing well, buddy!

Regards,
Shreeju

Hi,

+1 for the scenic routes and wonderful company.

Here're some pics I managed to take whenever I had to slow down:

We should do this again sometime.

Nice pics. Looks like you guys had fun. Details of the ride? Anyone writing a ride report for us to be jealous? :)

Thanks guys for the wonderful company. Me and Naresh found a place on
the bus. The cycles went on the rear seat, and all the time we were
standing and I was holding the cycles.
Reached Nayandahalli around 6pm. From then it was a pacy ride through
the traffic to Whitefield. Finally reached my home at 7:30pm.

I already got a name for the road. "Raunchy Ramanagara". Here is the
Garmin Link for Magadi to Ramanagara, which is the important segment.
Of course, this segment was the best of the ride.
In total, it was 173K for me. I am happy to have spent time on the
saddle.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/187584768

Ramanagara - Nayandahalli stretch shows 37K on Google maps. It might
be slightly less than 200K for most of you guys.
I am sure all you guys are prepped for the brevets.

Thanks once agin,
Uday

Thanks a lot Uday for taking the initiative for organising this ride.
Also, thanks to Shreeju, Vageesh and Naresh for the company. It was an
excellent ride with scenic routes and undulating terrain throughout. I
was always dreading my return journey home from Ramnagara all along
Mysore Road. Somewhere in this thread Shankar had mentioned that
Mysore Road uphills are over-rated and I second that! Unfortunately no
picstures from my side.
