All too often I see the word 'peddle' used in place of 'pedal'. Instead of responding to any particular use of 'peddle', I thought I might share the difference in this separate post

ped·al Verb   /ˈpedl/
  • pedalled past tense;   pedals 3rd person singular present;   pedaling present participle;   pedalledpast participle;   pedalling present participle;   pedaled past tense;   pedaled past participle
  • Move by working the pedals of a bicycle
    • they pedaled along the canal towpath
  • Move (a bicycle) by working its pedals
    • she was pedaling a bicycle around town
  • Work the pedals of a bicycle
    • he was coming down the path on his bike, pedaling hard

and

ped·dle Verb   /ˈpedl/
Synonyms:
  • peddled past participle;   peddles 3rd person singular present;   peddling present participle;   peddledpast tense
  • Try to sell (something, esp. small goods) by going from house to house or place to place
    • he peddled art and printing materials around the country
  • Sell (an illegal drug or stolen item)
    • certain youths who were involved in theft and drug peddling

I think we all appreciate more pedaling and less peddling, thanks!! :)

Well, of course it is the wrong spelling and all that, but...since we do know what's being referred to, and there are not going to be any marks deducted for wrong spelling....just let it go Arvind!  At least it's not as bad as the person who said there would be free Tee-shits being handed out at a cycling promotion....

I used to be an English spelling and usage Nazi, but now, I feel, the important thing in a language is communication :)

Cheers, Deepa.

Puddle? People use puddle to say pedal instead of peddle and paddle?

When on your cycle, your wares you pedal,
Make sure you get around fast.... step on the peddle.
If you find two cyclists fighting, don't medal;
You don't want to win a posthumous bravery meddle.
While cycling, be careful to avoid deep poodles;
Avoid, too, each nasty biting pet  puddle.
...I hope I've got all your words in a muddle!

Just prevented it from being OT by dragging cycling into it :)

Deepa.

Eh. Chuck that irshaad fellow. Sounds more like a rapper to me.

Anyway, when you.re mountain biking most of those things are relevant. For instance, you can peddle drugs in your hydration bag by pedalling over a puddle and then paddle away to another country :p

so you can smuggle and peddle while you pedal and paddle . . over a puddle?

Shankar
