All,

Five of us had been to a place called "Dabaguli" last sunday as part of a recee excercise.
Dabaguli is on the banks of Kaveri between Mekedaatu and Hogenkal.

Here is a small write up on the trip.
Sagar T.U has promised to write a story on the trip, i shall give only highlevel details of the rotue, etc.
We did only 25 kms (complete trails) of cycling. But one can start anywhere between Bangalore to Hunasanahalli and reach the place by cycle.

Murali was the architect of the route, we both spent couple of hours on saturday studying SOI Maps and wikimapia to trace the route. My help was only serving coffee and biscuits :)

The Transport was "Bolero Camper" proudly owned by Dr Tejaswi. We packed Two bikes (merida and GIant) into the luggage section of the camper and started from Bangalore around 5 in the morning.
The other person with us was Mohan (Spectrum team ).

The route is something like this

Distance (approx)
BTM-Harohalli (35 kms)
Harohalli-Maralvadi(11 kms)
Maralvadi-Hunasnalli(35 kms) tarmac
Hunasnalli-Honnaganahalli(10 kms) tarmac
Honnaganahalli-Bylapatti(5 kms) Offroad
Bylapatti-Manchagunahalli(5 kms) tarmac
Manchanagunahalli - Dabaguli(8 kms) Offroad

Dabaguli is a nice place to camp, people can easily get into water and there are coracle services to cross the river.

The second part of the journey was from
Dabaguli to Koteyur (20 kms) offroad - We had to cross a small stream (and falls). Mohan did well to drive the camper across.
Koteyur to Anchetti(20 kms)
Anchetti to Denkinkotai to Bangalore

Attached the route map and couple of photos.
In case you need gps file, do mail me.

Kartik

We came back by 4 in the evening.
As I mentioned in the previous mail, cycle ride was only from Honnanganahalli to Dabguli.
A good place for Mobiking too.

At Dabaguli :
There are couple of concrete buildings (Temple and forest check post).
One has to take Tents for night halt.
No hotel, i guess localites might help you in fishing and frying the catch :). I am not sure about this as I am a Veggie :)

Good to see this, Harsha.

Me & KP rode a similar route during December 2008.  There's a small temple at Dabguli where one can rest for the night.  Next day morning, one can cross the river in a coracle. Once on the other bank, there is no fixed road, but there is a trail. Pushing the bike uphill for a kilometer or so leads to an excellent trail. We continued on this road and finally reached Ooty in a fairly roundabout manner. I'd highly recommend this route for a few days of biking + camping experience : eat out at villages, stay in tents/schools/anywhere else.
