Does anyone know what time the cyclothon begins?. The website
indicates a 7am start although I can't see that considering the
shuttle bus pickups are scheduled for 6:30am around various parts of
the city.

Is there anyone planning to cycle to the start point (BIEC) from the
Banaswadi area?

The time indicated in the website should be correct. It is 7 a.m. IST... Indian Stretchable Time.

Guys one question here: Where is the starting point? The portal says
NICE BIEC. Which part of NICE does this start from? Is it from the
NICE Bangalore-Mysore Exp HW junction?

The website says that the race will be held on the NICE coridor, which
it is very far from the starting point, BIEC, which is on NH4.
AFAIK, NICE corridor is the road connecting Mysore road and Hosur
road. Or am I missing something here?

Anybody has more clarity on the route?

Many thanks

NICE Corridor connects Hosur Road to Tumkur Roar. Its a semi circle around Bangalore. South-West-North.

Google maps is not updated yet even though the roads are in place.

hi Ananth,
I too am joining from North Bangalore - Sahakar Nagar, on the side
close to Bellary Rd. I was planning to try to get myself to the
Yelahanka New Town bus pickup (meaning I'd have to arrange for them to
transport my bike for me somehow?), as I am new to the city and don't
feel confident that I could navigate getting there successfully & on
time by bike. But if you are riding and wouldn't mind steering me a
little, perhaps I could join you?
write back and let me know!
cheers,

Dear all,
Heres an update, one of my colleague went to their ulsoor office today to register.
She learnt few things which i am noting here.
1. Elite race is scheduled to start first. 7 am is assembling time for all participants to beat the traffic. Not sure about exact time when the races will begin though.
2. Amateur race is scheduled for next slot (after elite)
3. The goody bag has some gifts for the participants :)
4. The officials are still not clear about the route map and its still been worked upon. They told its their first time so things are still materialising.
5. There will be mechanic counters, food/water counters.

She registered for 50 km one, and she was surprised when i told that there were emails here about max been 36 kms. I just checked the website and it still says 50 km for amateur ride.

Rgds,
Nalla.

Hello guys, the option is still open for you to take the buses arranged by them - but please be aware of 2 things -
1. you cannot take your bikes in the bus, if you want them to handle your bikes or transport them to venue, then you have to leave the bikes with them on 8,9,10 Oct at Kormangala Indoor Stadium fair and they will return the bikes at the same venue after the race
2. If you are elite or amateur 50km rider, then you have to manage to reach on your own, because the buses will only reach the venue by 7.30-8.00am, and the race starts at 7am. These buses are useful for people participating in teen and fun rides

Please see the route details here - http://bsaherculescyclothon.in.com/preform.php

Pick up: 6.30 a.m. from the above mentioned locations to BIEC
Drop: 1.00 pm from BIEC back to the locations

Have fun!

Hi Anitha,

At the time of registration I did not have a cycle so I had opted for
a rented one. But now, I own one.
Blind rejection on this basis isn't the proper thing to do. I should
at least have been informed that this might be a criterion for
rejection.
I have a cycle of my own now, and I do not need one on rent, so
logically I should be allowed to participate.

Anyway, I've contacted them today and they say they'll get back to me
by tomorrow.

I liked the fact that we are requested to carry bottles unlike SF Run where tiny bottles were trashed.

An interesting clause -

"In the event of inclement weather, the event organiser reserves the right to delay the commencement of the rides. Should bad weather
persist, the event organiser reserves the right to cancel the race without any refund."

Let's see how it goes.

No prizes for amature category :-( dashed my hopes of funding my roadbike :-).

In elite category they have prizes for top 10 places (top 20 in mens), that is pretty good.

Now how does one become elite ? Is it just paying a fee to Cycling Federation of India or does it mean you need to qualify in terms of  as in Boston Marathon ?

Anyone has the info ?

I was dismayed to read on this thread that 2000+ cars are expected to converge on the NICE Road for the Cyclothon event. How can we call this a "green" event in this case? We are totally defeating the non-pollution message if we have an event where so many cars will converge, not for anything else but for the event itself.

I once participated in a clean-up drive of Nandi Hills where all the politicians and court officials brought their cars, and it was a shameful travesty that there were 200 cars on the hills, and the drivers and chamchas of the bigwigs created more trash than we could clean up.

Please...let's try to somehow get as few cars as possible for the event....

@shreelesh: Acc to the pdf, the rule of not allowing disc wheels and aero bars is cos, these would make them time trial bikes which are not safe for a mass start race....

@Deepa: the pdf at least requests people to minimise car traffic and use public transport to get to the spot, and have arranged for it too. And the tone of the pdf at least is to keep it as clean as possible

I may be pessimistic but I think this is gonna be a waste of time. Its
likely to be huge, unwieldy and not well organized. I know I should be
giving the benefit of doubt to the organizers here, but just this
morning, a couple of us decided that we may be better off doing our
regular Sunday morning ride instead of this.

Agreed, although it would be good to get amongst all the riders and
advertise the BBCh and Critical Mass rides. Are there any BBC T-shirts
available for sale right now?

+1

It will be great if we can wear them for the Cyclothon. It is a good
opportunity to spread the word about BBC and our own BBCh.
Maybe people will be intrigued to come to BBCh in future if we can do
a little chatting about how we organize it without any frills.

Cheers

Right now we have two options:

1. http://tee.bumsonthesaddle.com/
2. Request Modi to come up with more BBCh tees. He will need a confirmation on number of tees needed. Show of hands please.

Hey guys,

The decatholon jersey's are a tad expensive so we are trying our level best to procure some good jersey's at a low cost which is the reason we are taking some time.

Its unfortunate that we will not be able to get those done before the event.

Lets see, 3 more days to go...and a lot of things can happen in those 3 :)

cheers

The decathlon jerseys are 450 bucks acc to the website... Adding printing costs plus some profits should still be able to fetch it for something like 700 bucks i guess...

Which is a damn good price for a decent jersey acc to me, and am ready to buy one for myself using the decathlon jersey... If you can get it printed and make it available at BOTS and wheelsports, i guess it'll be sold out in no time

I strongly second that. 36 km ain't my idea of a Sunday ride and the thought of 2000 cars and hundreds of cyclists is also thoroughly dissuading.
We'll be riding but not at the cyclothon.
Have fun ye all!
