to all the regular office commuters;

How do you carry your laptop to work.

Would you know whats the safest way to carry one without damage.

Do you
a) carry the bag strapped to your back
b) use a rack
c) use a rack and pannier system

Your inputs will be very helpful

thanks
anand

I use a simple Wildcraft laptop bag. Its water proof tooo...
Does not strain my shoulders or my back either.. I carry my laptop 3-4 days a week. No problem since past one year !

Thanks for the pictures. Did you pad the laptop in the bag when you placed it on the rack..

@Rahul trying to avoid if possible carrying laptop on my back. I know it can be done but wary about long term affects on the shoulder

I bought the dausser.com Laptop bag from one of our BBC group member (guess, it was Ankit) for 400Rs (when I bought, and need to check the latest price), and quite satisfied so for. I have been using it last 6months.

Venki,

Does this bag rub against your thighs/legs when riding?
What bike do you ride?

I carry my formal clothes to office. So I use that as additional pad for the laptop. Hope it helps you Anand.

But one thing,  my suggestion is that you just start commuting by bike to the office from tomorrow itself. You can find out all new possibilities by yourself. This is my own experience.

Thanks and Regards,

Guru Saran,

I dont find it rub against my thigh/legs. I ride TREK 3700 or road bike, However, we shared some feedback on the dausser initial design, to get a customized version per frame size and Laptop size.
I find that sleeve is little big for my 14 inch Laptop. I am not sure if they are incorporated in the latest model.

I carry my laptop in my backpack. With spare/gym clothes my lunchbox it may come around some 6-8 kgs. Worked well for me for the past two years. But this makes my back sweat so I change my t-shirt at office.

As Sanath has mentioned the best way is to start and see for yourself which one works for you. You never know, you may find out a new way and help others.

Vivek

True... you yourself would be the best judge Anand.

Regarding the backpack.. it again depends on the quality of the bag.

Mine ... It does not sweat...has enough cushion. Takes care of my back and shoulders. No pain No strain... !

I too have been carrying my laptop and spare clothes in a backpack for a year now. I don't have any issues with this arrangement.
Though as Vivek said, it does make you tshirt soaked with sweat which you have to change once your commute finishes.

I have a Wildcraft bag. Have been using it since 5 years. May be more...

Obv... Slight sweat is inevitable (only) over shoulders during peak summer mornings...

Again people tend to sweat even without bags while riding... ! So Bags alone cannot be blamed.

hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions. I do commute regularly on my bike. I usually dont carry the laptop with me every day. Worked out a way where I can still work from home when my laptop is in the office.

On the few occasions I have had to carry it back I have done in Sanath's style.

From the responses it seems carrying on your back; having a rack or finally a pannier solution works best.

thanks
anand

Get a local carrier installed and buy elastic strap cables

Carry laptop in a padded laptop backpack, groccery bags, vegetable bags anything that the carrier can take load

Strap the elastic cable tightly with the seat post and carrier

Been riding my Schwinn Hybrid with everything on the carrier and no load on back only in case of heavy shopping when carrier is full then backpack comes on :)

Cheers
Amar
