GMC practice ride - 3 (ThatteKere)

Where == Thattekere

Meeting place == Merida / Family Mart Junction or Kanakapura road - outer ring road Junction

Ride start time == 6.30 AM

Approx. finish time == 4.00 - 5.00 PM

All are welcome to join, including people who are not riding GMC. Pls confirm.

 

The trial is not straight fwd, so, let’s ride together.  Find below riding directions (take a print out of this) :

--Start at Kanakapura Rd & Ring Road Junction (also called Merida Junction, Family Mart Junction) towards Kanakapura. and bike - 15 kms

--Reach Kaggalipura and take right at Kagallipura towards Bannerghatta and bike - 10 kms

--Reach Intersection of Bannerghatta Rd and Bannerghatta-Anekal Road. If u take a right it goes to Bannerghatta and left goes to Bangalore city. (Breakfast at this point, there are couple of idli joints, not so great). 

--Take the straight road, the Bannerghatta-Anekal Road towards Jigani and bike - 2 kms

--Take a right where you find an 'Ayyappa Swami' board and a small bus stop. There is also a small board saying way to Shivalli.

--Keep going straight crossing Shivalli, Ragihalli and bike - 10 kms

--Take a left after Ragihalli and bike downhill to reach a stream. Cross the stream to reach Jigani-Harohalli road - 2km

--Take right on the Jigani-Harohalli towards Harohalli and bike - 2 kms

--In the left you find an arch, bike through the arch to reach Thattekere lake (1 km)

--Come back towards Jigani-Harohalli road, take a left and proceed towards Harohalli biking for 14 kms. Lunch at Harohalli at Jayaram Canteen(near Arunachaleswara temple) or Vasu Hotel

--Catch the Kanakapura Road and take left at the road towards Bangalore. Bike for 30 kms to reach ORR/Kanakapura Road junction / Merida Junction / Family Mart junction

Note: Ride starts at sharp 6.30 AM unless you are somewhere close by - pls call in such cases. We have also organized a Quails which will carry basic medical-kit, tool-kit and a fixture to mount 4 cycles on the top in case of emergencies. The vehicle will tail us all along the trail from start point and back. Breakfast and lunch can be had at small hotels where mentioned above. There are few shops on the way where you get snacks, water, fruits etc.

Hey guys...it was a wonderful trip.. I am the only guy with the road bike to make it through the roughest terrains...( thanks to my liners..hehe)...and complete the ride.. I reached merida junction exactly at 3.09 pm. After the super lunch at vasu. .i did not stop anywhere and kept my foot on the ground only at my house gate.. Awesome trip enjoyed it... Cheers to my bike....

It's the first time I'm riding with such a large group. It was great
fun, and the terrain was superb (except the 2-3 km gravel stretch on
the Kaggalipura - Bannerghatta Road - but I guess it's my first time
bug). Thanks GMC for organizing this wonderful training ride.

Anil, I guess there were some 25-30 odd riders in the group. We need
to see all the photos; so people whoever have taken pics / videos,
please upload :)

been reading this wonderful blog from past 5 weeks. feeling quite
excited about the long trips, GMC practice rides etc, as i see this as
the 3rd one (GMC)... hopefully u guyz will try for the GMC 4
aswell :), in that case will surely join.

just one month back i have resumed cycling after 15 yrs (yes i am 33
yrs old :D ), on 31st July 2011 bought my Schwinn Spoterra Sport 2011
from RR cycles Madiwala. since i paid 18250 including accessories
such as long lock, cyclometer, bottle cage, mud guards (only for the
monsoon) no helment yet.. sometimes feels like i might have paid 1-2 k
extra.. but when i ride on my schwinn... no regrets... its a great
bike.. hoping for a long drive soon.. till now the max distance i have
covered is 21 kms (1 hr and 5 mins). any suggestions to imporve
stamina to sustain the long drives... Thanks in advance.

I'd say keep pedaling and upping your distance gradually. Take a chance and do your first 50 and century. It is amazing what a long distance ride can do to your confidence and stamina! I've noticed that after a long ride, I go up a couple of gears during my office commute!

This was my first long ride and I too was apprehensive...
Join in some rides over the weekend...you will feel great to ride
along with a grp....you will get some tips here and there on the way..

Just observe yourself while you peddle ..how are you seated. how are
you peddling, where is the pressure, where is the pain etc...
Well rather difficult than said :-) ....
But I also tried doing this ...little tough to do this along the
ride..
Since I did this for some time, I found one of the mistake I was doing
as soon as I red the third point in the below link
