What does the rule book say on cycling on NICE road. I took the road
( and so did many others on Sunday) on our way back from the
Manchinabele trip. The security guard at the entrance of the ramp from
the main road thought for a moment and said, 'Hmmm, this is a two
wheeler, so go ahead'. The guy at the counter , looked at me and said,
go ahead, but please ride on the shoulder and thats that.

I've heard folks tell me that its not allowed, and on Sunday someone
mentioned that they treat you like a two wheeler and take appropriate
toll. On the couple of ramps that I looked, I did not see any explicit
notice about not allowing cycles. There were notices that said 'No
tractors allowed' though. I would appreciate any insights on this.

This is one question which i allways had in my mind, I have head at some places they dotn allow cycles while others seem to have no problem.
I am thinking why dont we send a representation  to NICE authorities from BBC asking them fro a clarification on the same, the road is really useful to many cyclists

let us share our views

I wasnt allowed too. But the reason he gave was that they dont allow slow moving vehicles after 6pm. I was there at around 8 I think.

I have tried going on NICE road once from BG Road to Electronic City... and took a U Turn before the toll gate (@Electronic City). No one said anything. Probably because it was around 6 AM. I saw a couple of runners on NICE road as well.

Hi,
About NICE road, I have been cycling on it between the stretches of
Meenakshi lake and Hosur road for over 3 weeks at around 7AM or so.
The guards at the toll gates have never stopped me from passing
through. I always use the leftmost tollgate which is most often
blocked by one of those yellow roadblocks, but there's always enough
space to slow down and get your cycle through it. I haven't paid the
toll and have never even been stopped for that.

Thanks,
Akshay

I called up the number listed on their website and was informed that cycles are not allowed.   Even the person who picked up the phone did not have a clue and had to check with somebody else there.  They were quick to mention that cycles are allowed for Cyclothon.
Personally  they don't allow me on the Mysore road to Tumkur road stretch.

Did a 65K loop, covering the entire NICE road stretch.

The weather was too good today...
And yes, no one stopped me from entering the NICE road. The guy at the
toll
gate just smiled and let me go...

Even,I was stopped once by the security guy and he told me that it's
for your safety that we're not allowing
as there will be many fast moving vehicles.
But he allowed me finally after some arguing.

lets not spoil people's gud opinion about cyclists. lets avoid riding in places where its prohibited. gud for cyclist and very gud for other speedy vehicles on NICE road.

>>want to join us over next weekend on a bike to a wild place?
If the forest area is wats meant by the "wild place" here, please avoid it too. There are many other ways to commit suicide and many other ways to do adventure and many other ways to come on television and get the rider picture in a news paper column. Let the animals live peacefully atleast there in forest.

Too damn dangerous to ride on the NICE road, IMO. The road is usually choked with trucks going side-by-side -- which means that some impatient idiots drive their cars on the shoulder at 100kmph. Not a place to be on your bike. The only exception to this is probably the PESIT toll to the "main" NICE road (10km one way). This usually has very little to no traffic. But then, there have been other mugging kinda-incidents on this (lonely) road some time ago -- not safe to ride alone here.

Ride safe,
Sharath

Chiddu,

I wasnt expecting you (of all the people in the world) to stir up this hornets nest again.

Irrespective of whether they allow cyclists or not, I will *never* ride on NICE road for safety reasons.

As Sharath mentioned, there are cars driving on the shoulder at 100kph. This is very regular and I have seen it happen a lot times.

That is definitely not where you want to be.
