@Sharath E. I had done it previously in 13 Hours in the opposite
direction , This route appears to be a bit easier route

@Dhawal This just the highway i will be taking, so there is no map
required , you can always check with google map

I checked with some of my friends (non cyclists) -- they said there is very heavy traffic on that route.  I've not done highway rides so far, other than Nandi & back.  My friends said the Nandi highway stretch is not really comparable to the Tumkur one.

Wondering if I should first get some exposure on a shorter distance or an alternate route (towards Mysore, which I'm told has comparably less traffic), before trying this route.

Any thoughts from anyone on that?  (Aside -- I was told there isn't much in terms of scenery either, on that route.)

Raghu is proposing the ride.  He's saying it will be along the highway.  I just checked on google maps -- if we are to go via Kunigal, we will take NH48 I suppose, at/near Nelamangala, I suppose.

And then NH4 back all the way, I suppose.  Raghu?

Dhawal,

This Sunday I rode to Bangalore-Malavalli-Bangalore via Kanakpura Road / NH209. Its also 200KM to and fro. But I believe the road is less crowded, specially after Kanakpura and eye-soothing scenic beauty. In fact this Saturday I'm planning for Mysore this way.

Debanjan

thanks,

2) Via Nelamangala NH-48(Bangalore-Mangalore highway)  80 Kms to kunigal. After Nelamangala 4 lane road,

Thanks all for the details -- much appreciated!

I checked within my contacts -- I'm told that NH4 has concrete barriers on the side, so not much place for cyclists to go to the side if required to.  But I'm told there are service lanes outside the barriers, where cyclists should be able to ride much better.  I will prefer if that is the case; Raghu -- do you have those details?

Debanjan -- I was considering the Kanakpura route too, as an alternative, for doing a 200Km ride this Saturday.  I'll email you offline for more details.

thanks,

@Dhawal :Firstly we will be taking bangalore-Nelamangala-kunigal-
Tumkur-bangalore
bangalore-Nelamangala-kunigal Strech is NH , newly layed 4 track road
from nelamangala to kunigal
Kunigal to Tumkur is state Highway with very less traffic
Tumkur -Bangalore :The road is really good and broad enough to ride at
safe distance from fast moving vehicles
ya it is most crouded NH, there is no shade in the entire strech. but
still safe road than mysore or kanakpur road for cycling .

@suraj:Would be easy if you have done 100K+ ride before

The ride was nice though, the head wind kept me pushing back and sun
slaping.
Though the nelamagala kunigal is rolling track with newly laid road ,I
could hardly exceed more than 19 KM/Hr because of the monster head
wind,
Itz hi time I need to learn how to counter act the head wind , any
suggestion from Pandits....
Strated @ 5:30 and reached bangalore @ 4:15,
There were totaly 12 bikers who asked weather i was taking part in any
race from the start till the end.

Raghu,

Great....I was wondering why did you added kunigal stretch to your 200k ride instead of blr-tumkur and continue on davanagere road and return.....??

I finally did this route (suggested by a friend) --

From Kanakpura road, after the NICE road crossing, take second right and go to Kumbalgodu (Mysore Road), and then on to Magadi road, upto Kunigal.  I finally turned back from near Magadi, as I was beginning to feel the crunch and needed enough steam to get back too -- did about 155kms.  The route (atleast upto the point I covered), was very scenic; especially the greenery.  And nice rolling terrain.  It's a inside road, so traffic is less.

For folks living within few kms of the Kanakpura/NICE road crossing, it's really a really good option, IMO.  For me, it was 35kms just to get to the Kankpura/NICe road crossing, from Marathahalli area; but even I would consider doing it once in a while.  (otherwise, get there in a car, i suppose.)
