Hi,

I completed riding around 100 kms yesterday and felt it is time to feed food (air) to Moksha (my bike - Cannondale quick).

I was wondering how to check the pressure of air and really would like to have a device that reads out the pressure from tires and indicate when the pressure is low - are there any such gadgets/device available (or) air pumps have this feature in-built?

I went to couple of local cycle shops but apparently none of them have air pump that fits the valve in the tires. I am considering to buy one air pump (hopefully this weekend). Your suggestions would be of great help to pick the right air pump.

Thanks & Regards,
Krishna Chandu

Go to decthlon u can find pumps which shows the reading.
Or
You can ask moksha if he's feeling hungry.

Regular ones are also available,, just explore the link further. It has an analogue meter which shows pressure in PSI and bar also, may cost 600 - 750

I have both. The hand pump for long rides and emergencies. The regular one can be used for bikes, cars, cycles etc....

Hi Krishna,

GO to sp road, You will get foot pump for 500rs, Iam using it from past one month, Its really very very good.

You know why i purchased foot pump ?

I was so tired to hear from the petrol pumps that they cannot put air pressure 80 ps to my trek hybrid 7100 most of the times, But there were some exceptions as some of the petrol pumps were able to put the high air pressure to my cycle.

Also when i was back from chennai after one year from capgemini to a new job in bangalore, First priority was to start my cycling expedition, my trek was lying unused for one year and you know, Air pressure status in the tyres for unused vehicle. When i landed in bangalore first job i did was to remove my cycle from the garage, and put the air pressure.

I forgot to mention this i stay in Nagarthpet near Dharmaraya temple very near to sp road, Let us get back to the story, I woke up in the morning at 8:00 am and went to sp road, First shop i went was madras cycle mart as it was 8:00 am, owner was not there , I was able to find only the employee i.e shopkeeper  there, I asked him " Sir foot pump idiye" he told haudu sir idde, let me get it for you From the ware house, he got the foot pump and opened the box and kept it in front of me, I saw the foot pump and really got impressed by it, i asked the the price " Yestu agute pricuuuuuu sir"  he told back  750 sir, you know i have grown up in a place where i always negotiate, In my mind always there is no fixed price concept which i learned it from my father, I.e always negotiate to get a good price, So i started negotiating with the employee i.e shop keeper, And got down to 650 rs, But before i purchased i wanted to still check the prices in other stores also to make the deal, so i told him, I dont have hard cash, Can you take my debit card, shop keeper told, Sir " Namalli debit card transaction illaaaaaaaaa" only CASH, I was knowing this and it gave a chance for me to look up in other shops to conclude good price.

My next shop which i went was Raja cycle mart, I went to the shop keeper , As usual i asked him the price, He told 550 rs, Then i was shocked 100 rs lessar than previous shop oh i felt good, But my indian mentality told to negotiate once again, So i asked shopkeeper for raja cycle mart to reduce the price, The shop keeper was a marwadi , He told fixed price and thee wont be any negotiation, But i told sir " I have seen your Raja Cycle Mart" Internet and have come from a very far off place, Even people recommended your store for foot pump and also they menctioned price was 500rs, The shop keeper was very happy to hear this cycle name in internet and he told " Give me 500 sir"  not a problem. " Transaction Done "

I took the foot pump from Raja cycle mart for just 500 rs, Its a superb one and works very well its a steel pump with the reading meter up to 160, One thing which shocked me was In decathlon plastic pump is nearly 1000rs and i got steel pump for 500 rs..

Got the foot pump to my home, My Mom was waiting for me, She asked me the price i told only 250 rs, She told me " Hey if you give 50 paise in cycle shop you will have some one to put the the air " why did you spend so much for this foot pump. Even tough days are changed where when i stay with my wife in a appartment i will spend around 30000 a month as expenses, I know my Mom she is a perfect finance manager, so i didnt tell the original price. i opened the pump and started to put the pressure for back tire, My mom helped me in holding the bicycle , i put the requred presseure in just 10 shots, Next my mom was so interested with this foot pump she told she will put the air pressure for front tire, She put the pressure for front tire.

I took this cycle for ride to cubbon park and had a very nice ride, From that day onwards iam using this pump, Its really wonderful.

I Will recomend you to get this Foot pump for your lover moksha.

Take care of your moksha, She is sweet and she needs a good foot pump.

Friends anything you learned from my experience please share ?

>> Anything that we learnt from your experience ..
Foot Pumps are good and more importantly Always Negotiate ,

But you know what some of us can never do it and find it very
embarrassing , Not that I have lots of cash , But somehow I cant just
do it . Every time I find my wife negotiating with the Vegetable
vendor, I quietly disappear from the scene and resurface after the
purchase has been done .

Hi James,

This floor  pump at decathlon costs 649 for members. (check the link). This is the one i have bought. I fill my cycle and bike tires with this pump very easily. It can inflate the tire from 25 psi to 45 psi within 7 - 8 shots. (cycle). Its all about perception.. couple of my friends too use the steel leg pump. But I am comfortable with this pump.

I like Mahesh's Granma-story-telling-style .LOL!!!!!
I have been using the foot pump he describes from Raja Stores since more than 6 years now. The rubber piston ring wears off and pump starts 'sticking' after a while. Open the Cylinder cap remove piston with ring, cleanse  rubber residual in the cylinder, lube ,  piston ring / put a new one if frayed badly- available at Raja's ,  - I use cocoanut hair oil ;)

and you are back to pumping again..!!

Wonderful narration Mahesh! I enjoyed reading your experience in buying an air pump. I liked particularly the negotiation and smartness in dealing with the shop guys; really appreciate it:)
I would like to explore foot pumps and get one for Moksha! Yeah as you said I ll take care of her :D
Hoping that foot pumps are available for pesta valve.

Steel pumps are better or the plastic ones in terms of durability, rough/tough use?

I purchased a Foot Pump (China make) at SP Road for Rs. 150.. I
purchased it basically for two reason,

1. I have Avon cycle. did not want to buy expensive one till I by Trek
or any other brand..
2. I had to pay Rs. 4 at the cycle shop for filling the air.

I purchased it around one month back, no problem till now..

Mahesh.. which brand did you buy at the retail shop?

Regards
Kiran Narendra
