Off topic. What miners headlamps do you guys use? I don't see any decathlon stuff online.
I'm usually lit like a christmas tree on my evening rides but would still be interested in more lights. I haven't bought any helmet mount front lights. Thats the only place where there are no reflectors or lights :p.
Did you guys do any diy stuff? I remember seeing someone on the mandya ride (yateesh? Was it you?) with a regular pen sized torch tied to his helmet with a rope. I'l probly do that this weekend. Any pointers as to miners headlight thats inexpensive and can be bought locally will be very helpful.

Shankar

Chiddu,

I too didnt mean to protest here. I wanted to clarify about the comfort
level among the bar-mount Torch & headlamps/ Helmet lamps.

Yateesh,

That is the same one I use (the one from Decathlon - fixed to my head).
There is an explanation thread on BBC. Guess its easier for others to
see us if there is a focused light. My mail was more of a way of saying
'Please don't make me do all this by Friday, I just want to get up on
Sat and ride' , rather than a way of saying 'That's outrageous, how can
you guys even suggest such ridiculous rules' . Not a serious protest, in
other words.

Chiddu

Totally agree Chiddu.

I cycle to work quite regularly and usually the return journey
is in the dark.
I used to have a headlamp fixed to the Handle bar, Which is not
of much use. Light emitted looks intermittent due to the Road shock
transfered to the lamp causing it to vibrate a lot. Also, the light
intensity of the ones available locally (including the Decathlon
Headlamps) is Just not enough. (Though this may not help the rider
directly, but indirectly the traffic in the oposite direction can
recognise there is a moving object with light).
Owing to the above reasons, I now use a Miner's Headlamp during
evenings which is very comfortable to focus the light on the object/
particular patch of the road ahead in question. It i a lot more easier
to focus on your riding using a miner's headlamp/ Helmet mount Head
lamp.

"No, the front light has to be secured to the handle bar
properly"
Brevet Organisers, pls explain the rationale behind this Rule
for benifit of fellow riders.

Regards,
Yathi

Rules and Regulations for the 300Kms Bangalore Brevet
Ride (TO BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO, ELSE THE RIDER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND
WILL BE BARRED FROM RIDING)

* FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS

The Front lights need to be secured properly to the
handle bar. Without the front light, rider will be disqualified from the
ride.

Question: What if I have a very bright light attached to
my helmet, will I be allowed, it will still show the way right?

Answer: No, the front light has to be secured to the
handle bar properly, a light on the helmet may or may not be present.

I think this is a pretty silly rule. I have a light that goes on
my cycle but the one that goes on my helmet is better. So I'll use the
cycle one to confirm to the rules and the one on the head to actually
help me ride on the road at night ! Some of these rules are quite
ridiculous.

Will visit track and trail this weekend then. My commute will be a tad bit faster since i wouldn't have to fix the lights before riding. How much did you pay for the light?
