There is a lot of debate around the topic and people seek evidence based material. This guy might make some sense substantiating with studies -


This is a very insightful talk. A modern medicine doctor talking about the misgivings of modern medicine. 

There will be perhaps rebuttals to this as well. I am not too keen on the debate. All I want is for people to know that there is something worth trying. I still see a lot of merit in the #TryItForYourself approach :))

If you are keen on a debate this reply from a friend might interest you, about a healthy debate by people who actually run like nobody's business :)

A few months back, I had come across a healthy debate between 4 highly respected ultra-runners on diet. I found it to be very interesting as it helps to get perspective from 4 individuals “racing” distances of 60 to 100 miles here(100 kms to 160 kms+).

Some introduction of these people follows:

1) Jeff Browning a.k.a Bronco Billy -> He won HURT 100 miler this year on a high fat-based diet. You can look up on HURT 100 course toughness later smile emoticon

2) Zach Bitter -> World record holder for 100 km to 100 miles on track. He is a proponent of high fat based diet. He recently ran 100 miles on track in 11 hrs 40 mins. To put that in perspective for non-runners or anyone who has no idea, that's like running 4 back to back ~3 hr marathons on track.

3) Mike Arnstein -> FRUITARIAN (youtube channel: Fruitarian). He only eats fruits for the past 5 years or maybe even more. Intake is close to 4000 calories a day in only fruits and lives now in Hawaii as its cheaper to live out of trees when on such a principled diet.
He has podium'ed at Leadville 100 mile, and then raced a marathon 2 days later running a 2 hrs 40 mins. When he used to race 100 miles, he used to log 150 to 200 miles a week for months or years working full time in New York. And people say, they are busy writing Software primarily carved out of Stackoverflows.
For non-runners or anyone who doesn't understand this, its logging 250 or 300+kms a week on just FRUIT. There are other ultra-runners who log this mileage regularly but none that I know on fruit based diets.
 
4) Sage Canaday: Primarily plant-based and high carb diet. 2:16 marathon PR and has won several ultra's in distances from 50 to 62 miles at incredible speeds on mountainous terrains. Making his 100 mile debut at Western States this year. Another guy who believes in plant based diets.

These are 4 endurance giants debating about diets influencing performance/recovery and dietary choices influencing environment.
You better listen to get some perspective from meat-eaters, plant-eaters and fruit-eaters alike smile emoticon

I actually love both - carbohydrate as well as ketosis. I can do long grinding tasks by eating loads of carb as well as by long starvation (of carb).

So, I feel that it does not have to be either carb or fat. Body can be trained to switch to either fuel at will. Just to start with, I go without food for 16 hours everyday (from 8 pm dinner till 12:30 pm lunch). Then I eat heavy lunch and dinner - carb mostly.

How do I know if I'm switching to ketosis? I assumed since I can be active without carb this long. On an extreme case, I had gone without food for 48 hours during NEF enduro (except for two buns and little dry fuits) and I was strong till the end though I was extremely hungry and sleepy at the end of it.
