Friends,
I am proposing a ride to Savan Durga. It is roughly 60KM from my house
(which is 12KM south of Family Mart Jn on Outer Ring Road).
The date is June 3, Sunday, Time, 0600.
I will have my car shadowing us with food and water.
Since we might be able to average no more than 18KMPH I expect that it
will take about 3.5h including any pit stops.
If we go up and down the mountain once it will take about 1h. That is
enough effort for one day and also considering that we don't want to
get impotent or develop ED, I vote that we don't ride back but come
back by car. (joke people!)
My car can take maybe 3 bikes (will have to borrow Nagaraj's bike
carrier which is better than mine). If there are more than 2 riders
(other than me) then we will need another chauffeured vehicle. Anybody
own a van / car with a driver?

Now for the route:
I had originally proposed taking the Kumbalgod road from my house
(about 8KM to Mysore Highway practically no traffic) and then take
back road going by the Big Banyan tree and then get over to the
Ramanagaram road where it almost touches the Savan Durga and the last
3KM on this Ramanagaram road).
Now Jugy claims that he has a better route through the forest over
there.

In any case traffic will be a non issue. Main problem is how to get
the bikes back by transport.

So far we have 2 YES (Madhu, Nagaraj), a maybe (Jugy).

How about starting at 5 AM?

That route and the timing sounds good. Mallik reaching Madhu's house
by 5 AM is a little tough becuause you got to get up by 4 AM. My bike
carrier can carry 2 bikes. Madhu, do you have a bike carrier which
can carry 3 bikes? I do not have a driver though. So what would be
the solution? Anyone has any spare drivers? Any bike carriers?

Cheers

Yes. I agree 5AM is too soon. Heck 6AM will give us an opportunity for some heat training :-)
I do have a bike carrier that I can use to carry maximum of 2 bikes. It is a horrible one from Firefox. Regarding driver, invite a friend  for the drive. Especially if the friend wants to do the hill up/down. Even better let that person be a nice looking girl! I will be grateful.

One of the solutions could be, not to climb/run the mountain (non veteran runners :)), so that some of us can ride back home :).

I'm in

One suggestion - if we do not have enough cars/carriers, we can hire a
tempo that can pick us up at SavanDurga and bring us back. Shouldn't
cost more than Rs 500/-

The tempo idea sounds good. (Sorry Madhu, couldn't get a good looking
girl to drive up and down). Do you know any tempo guy? Can you
volunteer to get hold of a tempo?

Cheers

Not sure if this is the route, you have in mind till mysore road.

I want to do complete ride. i.e. going to Savandurga, climb and ride back.
you know, no kids waiting back home ;)

Hi All

I spoke to my neighbour's driver and he is willing to drive to
Savandurga on Sunday.
But not sure how to manage the logistics...

Now that we are seven in all (Balu, ROhan, Madhu, Navdeep, Mallik,
Nagaraj and Gaurav) getting an extra driver is not going to help us,
because we have bike carriers which can carry a max of 5 bikes. The
best bet would be a tempo.

Actually since 2 of the riders want to ride back (studs!) we need to carry 5 bikes. 2 on mine and 3 on yours. I agree that the best bet is still the tempo.

I can do a complete ride along with Navdeep. But I am hoping that I get the new Trek before the weekend (courtesy Rohan). Else will have to get my Hero DTB, which is damn heavy for climbs and lot slower, not sure if I can make it to the ride back.

If roads to savan durga is good, I can get along my road bike and do a complete ride.

Cheers

I am planning to ride back with Navdeep. I think Ramanagaram is 10 -
20 KM from Savandurga. So in worst case I can take a bus from
Ramnagaram.

hey bikers,
i would also like to join you guys if its not too late
now...from what i see i understand there is a problem of already too
many people interested in coming to savandurga,so if its possible for
me to squeeze in do let me know..
regards
Sriram
ps:i plan to get a alloy hardtail bike, but sadly it cant be dismantled
like the TREKS which i guess most of you guys have,so any problem?

Well,
Sriram, you are most welcome to join, there is no deadline it is just a friendly bunch out for a ride.
However there is the a problem with no solution so far:
The plan is to bike to SavanDurga (about 60K) and then optionally do a loop to the mountain top and back (on foot :-)). Now there are at least 3 of us (Jugy, Nagaraj, and I) who don't want to ride back. We want to load our cars on the bike or the other way around and drive back. So as there are a total of 8 of us now and there is only one car following us with a bike carrier that can take a maximum of 3 bikes. Therefore unless a tempo can be arranged the rest will have to ride back or make alternate arrangements. Navdeep and Gaurav want to ride back and Mallik also (or take a bus from Ramanagaram). That leaves Rohan and you without a solid plan. You guys need to come up with a solution.

ok madhu,
then do tell if and when a tempo is arranged cos that
will be great, otherwise as you said, rohan and me will think about
some way to return...or as someone mentioned i can catch a bus and
come back...

ps:i would also like to come to that RFL run at hennur rd this
saturday, again is there place for me?

How about getting that driver who is willing to drive us. My bike
carrier can take two bikes, Madhu's can take 3. So 5 of us can get
into two cars. Others are willing to drive back anyways.

Correct me if I am wrong:

Guys bicyling back are: Navdeep, Rohan, Mallik and Gaurav

Lesser mortals :-) Nagaraj, Madhu, Jugy, sriram and Balu

Hi Nagaraj

I'll talk to the driver; I might have to give him your phone number so
that he can call you up and decide on the logistics... Is that ok?

All

I am trying to get the tempo arranged. The cost would be around 1500
rupees which we need to split. Here are the directions to Madhu's
place (copy paste from one of the emails Madhu posted to me)

cheers
Nagaraj

Madhu

The address is: FB16, TransIndus, Tataguni Post, Bangalore. My mobile
is +91 988-053-5070.

Directions to my place:

1. Reference point is Junction of Kanakapura Road and Outer Ring Road
(Family Mart Junction). Reset your trip counter to 0.

2. Proceed along Kanakapura Road towards Kanakapura. Proceed for 9.0
km before making a right. (Along the way you will pass METRO to your
right, Cauvery Ford to your left, Avasarala Technologies,
Talaghattapura Police Station (on your right) and peripheral ring
road. Make sure that there is a BWSSB sign and also a sign to BGS
International school by the culvert at the right turn point. (This is
the 2nd right after Peripheral ring road. 1st right goes to Rishi
Valley school)

3. Proceed for 2.71 km (going by a electrical substation for BWSSB,
Tathaguni village, etc) and you will come to a FORK immediately around
a bend. Make a left at the FORK onto the smaller lane. You will start
seeing signs for TransIndus.

4. Travel for 1.2km and then make a right into TransIndus gated
Campus.

5. Register at the security gate. Follow the pink concrete road to a
Tee and make a right. Go to the end of the road and park to side of
road without obstructing access.

6. My house is visible from this point to the left. It loks a bit like
the white house except that it has a red tile roof.

7. The above should take an average of 30m.
