Hi All

I have a Rock rider 5 MTB.

I recently filled 45 points of nitrogen on both the tires.

The experience was different as it is more comfortable on bumpy roads.

This has to be validated by experienced cyclists.

If it works I think it would be better for off-roaders

Have a good day!

regards

Ashok

More comfortable? That's news!

I know Nitrogen is excellent for car tyres because:
a) it contains less moisture
b) is more stable at higher temperatures
c) lasts longer between tyre pressure checks
d) less corrosive on the metal parts etc.

This is why most high end cars - Nascar, F1, MotoGp, Flight tyres etc are inflated with Nitrogen.

First time I heard about bike tyres and that they are more comfortable.

Where did you inflate your bike with Nitrogen? May be all these empty beers (and some roadies) would like to do the same if you give us the address of the filling station. May be these fat bike riders would thank you during/after the Turahalli BBCh race :)

:-)

The riders weight must be around 90kg + and if 45 points is 45 Psi
then yes the ride will fell comfortable over bumps, basically lower air pressure is giving you soft ride..

as vasu mention nitrogen is for high speed automobiles

I fill my tyres with plain air, whose composition includes nearly 80% nitrogen. That means I'm getting 4/5 of the benefit for no charge. :p
How expensive is it to fill nitrogen in your tyres anyway? I don't suppose it's free of cost?

Well, I can't fill in Nitrogen at 5AM, which is a big deal! Floor pumps FTW! :-D

Cheers,
Sharath

Was wondering why we use Nitrogen, so googled and came up with this site...
http://getnitrogen.org/why/

Think about it - if you keep topping up the tyre with a pump, and the Oxygen and water vapour escape faster than nitrogen, then you will end up with higher levels of nitrogen in the tyre anyway.

Ok - fill nitrogen and tyre pressure will presumably last longer - however, business case seems weak, since hunting for a nitrogen walla and spending Rs.50/- seems a runaround - instead 2-3 minutes of exercise with the pump before a ride seems perfectly fine.

Individual choice of course.
