Hi,

I have a rather dumb question about using the Btwin floor pumps from Decathlon. These are the ones that can be used with both Schrader and Presta valves by flipping the valve head in the pump.

I can use it just fine on my MTB with Schrader valves. But for some reason, I can't figure out how / what to flip in the pump to make it fit the presta valve on my road bike. It is embarrassing, but even after spending a good deal of time, I am still stuck.

When I open the valve head (? not sure if that is the right name) in the pump, I see a green bit and a black bit. I have attached a picture of how they are arranged to fit a schrader valve.

What do I do with those bits to make them fit presta? I know there are only four possible ways to place them adjacent to each other, but I am simply not getting it right no matter what I try!

Any help will be much appreciated by an embarrassed soul.

Ashwatha,

To fit it for a presta valve, you have to flip the green bit and black bits and put it back with the black bit facing up and screw back the valve head.

When you flip the green and black bits, they fit together nicely in presta mode quite similar to how they do now in the Schrader mode. You put them back in with the black bit facing out and screw back the valve head. You should be ready to go.

Hope it helps,

Ashwatha,
Are you sure the Btwin floor pump you are using can provide the high pressure required for your road bike!!? If this is the platic one, I dont think it will reach 100+psi.

FYI , Btwin has this steel one(Clever valve) which can handle both schrader and presta which does NOT  require any flipping of the valves.

Venkat,
I have the FLP 5000 model - http://www.decathlon.in/CYCLE-INFLATING-FLP-5000

Its capable of inflating till 160 psi. I fill 140 psi on my Vittoria Rubino Pro tires.

From the pic of Ashwatha, it looked to be same model.

Oh! Then the plastic one, same model which I owned was faulty I belive and I sold it to buy the alluminium one with clever valve. Absolutely no hassles when shifting between my rb and hybrid:-)
