Hello,

I want to ship my bike from UK to India(Bangalore).

Does anyone has any experience of doing this.
And, what would be average overall cost.

Its an used MTB bike (18 inch frame).
And, I wont be able to get it along with me as a check in luggage.

I am more interested in knowing the overall cost, so that I can calculate the ROI whether I should ship it or sell it here.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Saurabh

I have done the opposite, from Bangalore to UK. It was many many years ago so any info as to price would be out of date by now, but I can tell you what I did and how it went. I simply took the bike with me as hold luggage. There was a small charge for this, but it was just a standard charge for "sports equipment" despite total baggage being over allowed weight (23kg). This was with BA. So I would contact airline and ask them.

I have also shipped a bike internationally within Europe using DHL (or some similar service but I think it was DHL). Additional airline luggage is cheaper!

My gut feeling is that if you have no emotional attachment to the bike (you say "ROI" which indicates emotion doesn't play a role here) it would be better to sell and buy another.

Hi Saurabh,

I recently brought my used road bike from Germany to Bengaluru through Air India. They charged 100EUR as extra luggage. That's it.

Best Regards,
Aravind.

Concur.

https://www.bikeflights.com/ is one option for shipping.
International shipping can incur further costs in terms of customs
duties if it doesn't fall into the category of TR (Transfer of
Residence)/or other excemptions and is not appropriately communicated
with Customs.

But AFAIK it is cheaper to bring along paying the extra airline fees
compared to international shipping. That is what I have done.
https://www.bikeboxalan.com/product-category/ was the box used.

Hi,
just say British Airways that you are carrying your bike and they have a special place in cargo for bikes, probably hte only airlines in the world to do so.

Gourav
