Hello Club,

Have any of you bicycled from Nandi Hills to Chamundi Hills? Has this route been done before:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=nandi+hills+bangalore+karnataka+india&daddr=Chamundi+Temple,+Mysore,+Karnataka,+India&hl=en&geocode=FYv1ywAdhVqhBCkX6vzrReSxOzEIZhlZKfc5Fg%3BFSxEuwAdQueRBCkTyDbWxm-vOzFRFr_SA5noJg&mra=ls&sll=12.819185,77.18867&sspn=1.663046,2.90863&ie=UTF8&ll=12.819836,77.195435&spn=1.663046,2.90863&z=9

Imagine being able to see the small Nandi at the base of the Nandi Hills and the Large Nandi on top of Chamundi Hills on the same day. Add to this the beautiful Hoysala architecture of Somnathpura. Wouldn't that be a real taste of Karnataka?

Thanks,
Yogesh

Next month's B I G ride will be a Georg special - complete with a
Georg map. 2 concentric circles of 2 different radius. Georg, let's
start planning that ride so that we touch a lot greenery and lakes. I
am so excited just thinking about it.

wow..... If we start from bangalore, head to nandi and then do the ride to mysore... it'll be a ~250 km ride (from my house at least)

And coming back the ~150 km the next day at a leisurely pace...

sounds like good training for B2C1D

And of course, Hauling our bikes to nandi, then doing a 200 to chamundi is also a good BIG ride for people doing their first double century

But, with 250 km at our disposal, we can do the Horsely hills route that Georg suggested a while back

Ravi Ranjan, for a guy who does 320kms in a day, you can easily go to Nandi, Horsley Hills, and Chamundi Hills on the same day :-)

I was thinking we can come back the same day on a bus and not ride back :-)

@Sudhir, we will need to get our bikes transported to the starting point (Nandi statue at the base). All riders will be riding equal distance.

The route suggested will take us through the same old boring Mysore road. Moreover, that road has no trees. Kanakapura road (Harohalli > Kanakapura > Malavalli > Bannur > Mysore) on the other hand is awesome! It has tree cover for a very large part. I would also like to have one place of tourist/historical importance to Karnataka. I was thinking Somnathpura where we have the great Hoysala temple. We can also think of Talakad or some other place close to Kanakapura road. KK Road has a lot of places of tourist/historical signficance. Then of course, we end the ride with a bike ride up to the top of Chamundi (at the Big Nandi).

Then count me in.

Pls lets have this on a Saturday and come back the same day (back by
bus, i meant). Dont listen to ultra cycling champs like Sudhir on
this...

Hello All,

I think this is a far better route what with more tree covers/less
vehicles/historical places. I particularly would like to visit
Somnathpur with which I have some personal attachment, ofcourse
Talakad would be a bonus.

Hi,

My previous post was before Mt. Nandhi ride. It was really fun in the
morning and while coming back scorching heat took toll of me.( But its
part and parcel of the package)
Yup I am ready for the Nandhi Hills to Chamundi hills ride, Please
count me IN.

@Yogesh: "we will need to get our bikes transported to the starting
point (Nandhi statue at the base)",
One suggestion from my side, Plan is Nandhi to Nandhi ride right! Why
not from Bull temple Nandhi to Chamundi hills Nandhi ?
The Purpose is solved and thereby the hassle to transport our bikes to
Nandhi hills base is solved and we can take the Kanakapura route
easily from Basavanagudi.

What say folks ? But I am open for anything. (its a question of
Karnataka Swabhimana Ride :P )

Regards,
Balu
