When we enquired these above mentioned travels, they did not have a problem. We were actually planning to transport it to Shimoga.

Hi Bhanu,

Have you tried KSRTC ?  volvo and A/C sleeper buses should be able to take your cycle no problem. me & my friend came to Yellapur from Bangalore in an a/c sleeper.

If I were you, I would:
   1. ideally get cycle in at the starting point of the routr
   2. arrive early at starting point
   3. be prepared to do some sweet talking to the conductor or driver
   4. be prepared to remove pedals on request or rotate handlebar.
   5. show them that the cycle takes less space by quickly removing the wheels
  6. book tickets in advance
Happy journey

I have always managed to get my cycle (sometimes with a friend's cycle) in Volvo buses -- KSRTC or private. Not sure what they might say on the phone, but at the boarding point, it has worked out, w/o any advanced luggage booking.

Depending on various specifics & whether the boarding point is the starting point of the trip, or something enroute, the experience may vary. In general, I think the govt buses give better experience, as the conductor may charge you some lower luggage fare, & you can give him some tip. The private ones I felt have a steeper/rigid luggage rate, & then I don't think you will be keen to give much tip, so the driver/conductor then may_not be too interested in helping you.

Hi all
Sincere thanks to all of u ...
I used Anand Travels on way to Goa
And Canara Pinto on way back ...they charged 200 each way ...

The driver are always saying no ...u just need to release the front wheel and saddle off ...

Note : From Tumkur (i rode till there) , u can only get buses to Goa

Rs200 in private buses is very reasonable. I have been charged rs500 once, & another time I was quoted much higher (I was with a friend, so we had 2 cycles), but negotiated it down (again paid rs500/cycle, I think). On the second occasion, I was wondering if my friend being a foreigner was a factor, but since the booking person agreed to my offer of rs500/cycle immediately, I felt OK. (Our passenger tickets wer rs1500-rs2000/person for that trip, IIRC).

Were the bus conductor/driver helpful?

I travelled with cycle to Udupi last year. I had booked Airavat volvo ticket for Friday night journey starting majestic bus stop. Being a long weekend for Ganesh Chaturthi, I observered the bus arrived at the platform with luggage space almost 99% pre-loaded with stuff not belonging to passengers. The conductor was hesitant to load my cycle due to lack of space. I pleaded him to create some space and he obliged.
He charged Rs.50 for journey till Hassan where I got down. He also suggested me to avoid Fridays or the nights starting the longweekends for next "adventures" since the luggage space on such days will limited. He was otherwise very helpful and appreciative of the "adventure". I tipped him Rs.100.

I had a memorable solo ride from Hassan-Ckm-Sringeri-Agumbe (Day1 170kms, overnight stay) and following morning reached my destination further 50kms.

During return Kundapura to Bangalore on following Tuesday night, there were no issues as the luggage section was 100% empty and he charged Rs.100 with luggage ticket.

Hope this is helpful for others travelling on Bangalore-Udupi route.

Ya, long weekends or festival times can be tricky. The bit about the bus luggage area (esp in a govt bus) being preloaded with non customer stuff, sounds weird. Good to know they still accomodated you.

Good to know you had a nice ride.
