Planning to ride to Avalabetta this weekend, could not find any information about any cyclists who have done that route , some motorcyclists have done it but that's also very few . its quite far.and hence want to know before i estimate the distance i should plan to cover. would specifically like know know how the road is, you know,  if its pothole ridden , no trees , narrow and risky, not worth the effort etc anything that will help me plan the distance better.

Till the left turn from highway, the road is good four lane. From the highway turn till the village turn, the road is moderate. Once get into village, the road is not good and narrow. Climb is short. On top, nothing much to enjoy. Better go in a group. IMO, there are many other better places to ride to compare to Avalabetta.

thank you & regards

Thanks pancham.

Suman, you said "better go in a group" why ? its just me and my wife who are planning on riding. BTW i found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPHlO_28F28 ,terrible camera placement but it gave me clues on how the road will be. its narrow yes very narrow in fact, but its shady lots of trees . seems promising. you also said "there are many other better places to ride" can you please list out your top 3 recommendations please.

This place is not frequented by cyclists and if you are visiting for the first time, its always better to be with others. Lot of motorists go there and at times it may be quite unfriendly also for cyclists as we see at Nandi.

Other places to look out for :

1. Menchanbele
2. Basavanbetta
3. Thattekere
4. Pyramid valley
5. Kanakapura-sangam
6. Talakadu ( road is not good )
7. Savandurga
8. Hessaraghatta Kutiram

thank you & regards

Went to Manchanbele this weekend.. disappointed that we couldn't go down to the water, the gate was closed and guarded :(

Was afraid of taking other routes down to that road running adjacent to the water. We had visited before and took some pics near the water, it was nice.
