Hi

Is anyone using Respro Sportsta mask? I've already bought it from decathlon for a price of INR 3999 and am wondering how does it fare compared to Neo sports mask?

The Respro Sportsta mask combines Hepa-Type filtration performance associated with sub-micron pollutants such as pollen and other irritant dusts, with a lightweight Neotex aerated mask. The Sportsta mask offers maximum ventilation without sacrificing filtration and to maximize rider performance, state of the art Powa valves are a standard feature and a must for all who ride to their limits. The Sportsta mask is usable in all outdoor sports pursuits where high levels of non-toxic dusts are present.

As the link suggests, it can be used where, high levels of non-toxic dusts are present. Does this mean that it cant protect me from pollution caused by automobiles? If that is the case, then it is useless for me because I'll ride in peak traffic.

Respro web site says, it's city mask protects from vehicular emissions. Should I've bought this one instead of the Sportsta mask?

The Respro® City™ anti-pollution mask offers screening from the inhalation of nuisance dusts and odours associated with vehicle exhaust emissions. The City™ mask has a contoured design ensuring the mask 'seals' comfortably and is manufactured from hypo-allergenic Neoprene. The filter in the City™ mask has been specifically developed for filtering a wide variety of nuisance dusts and odours commonly found in most major cities. With two essential Techno™ exhalation valves to allow unwanted heat, carbon dioxide and water vapour out it is an excellent means of screening yourself against urban pollution.

I need a mask that protects me from Bangalore's pollution when I'm cycling in traffic. Which of the above two is the appropriate one. Incase I've selected the wrong one I'll have to exchange.

Regards

Vinod

Seems like you answered your own question -- perhaps you should get the 'City' respro instead of the 'Techno' one. The manufacturer themselves recommend this, but frankly, I find it confusing that they have so many "models" on offer. When I was at Decathlon last, they didn't seem to stock the 'City' version. Do you see it there now?

Also, Neomask works pretty well in the city. I don't smell the fumes and it plays well with glasses too. I don't see a reason why Respro would not be just as good or even better than the neomask (not an informed opinion since I haven't tried the Respro myself). I'd say go for the 'City' one if you have the money to spend. If you're curious about Neomask, I wrote a long review about it (and the totobobo) here: http://bikeszone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12105

For the benefit of others who commute by bike, can you please post your review of the Respro after you start using it?

Thanks,
Sharath

Hi Sharath

I saw your review thread on bikeszone sometime back. It was very useful.
Respro Sportsta sells for 3999/- where as Respro City sells for 3500/-
Decathlon says they sell these on MRP . No discount.

I bought 'Sportsta' thinking that it will offer less resistance compared to 'City' as on the city mask it is written "motorcycling, urban walking" etc..where as on the 'sportsta' it is written 'cycling, running, etcc.'

I don't know why it is so costly . 3999/- where as neo mask is 895/-

which ever model I may end up using..I'll definetly update your thread.
Thanks.

Regards
Vinod

Umm, I do see 'Cycling' as well as 'Motorcycling' written on their
'City' mask page:
http://www.respro.com/products/sports-leisure/street-cycling/city_mask/

If you want to ride in the city, get the one which has some form of
Activated Carbon/Charcoal (which is the 'city' model in respro's
case).

Plus, resistance is really relative -- you probably won't know what
works for you unless you try it out for a week or so.

Not sure, perhaps it is made in the UK (driving the cost up)? One time
cost is probably OK, but what you need to consider is the recurring
cost of the replacement filters. The filters seem to be a little more
expensive than neomask -- 15GBP (1267INR) for 2 filters (shipping is
free according to their website), whereas a neomask filter costs
rs400. IMO, the rs200 difference is not a big deal if it turns out to
be more comfortable than the neomask. I think I'll bite as well --
thanks for bringing this up.

Sure, please do (and also post your feedback on this thread).

Thanks,

Updating this post, as I started using a Respro Sportsta mask a couple of months ago and I've now posted my detailed review of it on BZ (w/ photos). You'll need to scroll further down in the following link, to read a review on the Respro.
http://bikeszone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12105#p132213

Sorry for the cross-post and thanks for reading through. Hopefully, this will help those who commute regularly by bike.

Cheers,
Sharath
