Hi All,

Thinking of buying Schwalbe ROAD CRUISER (26 x 1.75) tires for decathlon my bike i am planning to buy over the week end :-)
The bike will mostly be used for commute. Does anyone have any experience with the tire?

Is it a good one?
Better than the stock tire?
How is the puncher resistance? i saw some -ve review regarding the puncher resistance of the tire.
How long in KM i can expect it to last?
Any other suggestions which are available in Bangalore locally?

Thank you,
Regards
Vishnu

You'd be shaving off a minimum of 500 grams off the bike's rolling weight. The ralson tires which come as stock are not only heavy but also hideous. If anyone wants the stock tires from the decathlon mybike for whatever reason, I'd give it away for free. Get new tubes while you're at it - the stock tubes are also heavy.

While I have no experience with Schwalbe road cruiser, I see that they have good reviews online and generally all schwalbe tires I have used have been good to me without any punctures and this is over about 4000-5000 kms. There was one flat on the delta cruisers I had on my erstwhile commuter and that was because of a weak tube. At around 800 rupees a pop, I'd say get it. You will definitely not regret it.

And check if the pedals on your mybike come installed correctly - I have an unresolved issue of the crank arm threads coming off.

Vishnu,

This one http://store.bumsonthesaddle.com/products/kenda-kwick-roller-sport-tire, I am using it in my Trek 4300. Since Nov-12 I have been using this for my daily commute (about 50Kms) and also recently completed my Bangalore - Kaniyakumari ride with that. So far no punctures yet. You can consider this too . . .

Thanks and Regards,

vishnu,

donot go for local tubes as the air leaks out in every 4 days and always you are in a loop of filling it. Go for the decathlon tyre, which i had changed for my Schwinn front one recently and am releived of this cycle. I am now using the local tube as a backup tube in my cycling backpack. After all tube is the heart for a tyre and viceversa :-)

Thank you,
Regards
Vishnu

BTW, what is the best price they quoted for those Schwalbe's? and who quoted it? any idea of how much does Ralson's similar tyres cost per pair?

The list price is 820/- per tire, which is 1640/- a pair.

Hi Vishnu,

I am using the Schwalbe Road Cruiser 26x1.75" tyres on my SurlyLHT.  They are good tyres; no cpmalints.  The other tyres that I have used on the Surly, are Schwalbe City Contact 26x1.5".  The Cuirser definately requires more effort; I don't know it's it's due to different materials, or just the extra width.  The Rs840 seems to be a nice price; I believe I paid Rs1K+ per tyre (got it from RR@Madivala).

That said, I feel these tyres might be bit of an overkill, for a bike like My Bike.  I was hesitant to spend that much for putting them on my Surly LHT.  My first choice was the Kenda K830, which I have been using for 2.5yrs on my Trek 4300D.  I find those to be good for both for good surfaces, and bad ones; including touring with luggage.  It was only because the Kenda K830s were not available with RR@Madivala when I needed urgently, that I went with the Cruiser.  The Kenda seem to have good life too; I don't see much wear.  (That said, I did replace 2 of them so far; one was damaged due to the bike shop guy not putting it back properly after some misc repairs; the other was damaged due to a bad bump, it seemed, combined with a bit high pressure that I was riding with, around that time.)

The Cruiser has kevlar layering, so should have good inherent puncture protection; but I anyway user tyre liners.  So not sure how much the kevlar would help, over and above that.  (I've hardly had any punctures in the 2.5yrs  that I have been using the Kenda on my Trek4300D.)

So my suggestion would be to consider the Kendra K830, if you use tyre liners; you will save some money.  (If you don't use tyre liners, my suggestion would be to start using those. :)  It would be a one time investment; then you don't need to invest in kevlar layer tyres etc., which would be a repetitive expense.)

-{db}.

What would be the price of similar tyres from Indian manufacturers. I have searched a few from Ralson. They look like really good patterns they have. But not sure of pricing and the advantages/disadvantages with Indian tyres (apart from a few extra grams).

Anyone who used Ralson tyres or know about them can throw some light.

I have been using the Schwalbe road cruiser tyres on my Trek 4300D along with tuffy tire liners for my office commute since 6 months approx (3600km) and I have never had a puncture. I think they are very good for city riding.

Few grams which make a whole lot of difference between suppleness, grip, traction, feedback and unwanted effort for no extra cushy feeling. The ralson tires that came stock on the mybike had very little grip, rolled very very slow, were heavy and didn't have enough road grip. As it is with everything that man ever made - you get what you pay for.

The btwin tubes available at decathlon should be a major upgrade from the heavy tubes on the mybike.

Thank you all for all the help !

Got myself a pair of Schwalbe ROAD CRUISERs and a pair of decathlon tubes.
As people mentioned, the tires make tremendous difference. the bike rolls much much better
Have to see about the puncher protection aspect, if i get frequent punchers i will put tire liners.

Thank you,
Regards
Vishnu
