North Bangalore cyclists?

Hi all,

How many of us from North Bangalore? New bel road, vidyaranyapura, hebbal, yelahanka etc?? we can organise/join trips or just ride around and share experiences from the north of namma bengaluru!

And oh yeah, I'm Shankar Shastry from Vidyaranyapura, ride around 15-20 daily ( on days when I dont hit the snooze button :P) and have done around 3 centuries on my Rockrider 5.2.

Just show up on some ride, and you'll get to know folks.... I particularly dont see why we need to partition ourselves as bangalore northies/westies etc, and make lists and spreadsheets etc....

We all should meet up sometime for some ride for sure... and anyway, a know-thy-neighbour thing can happen only in such subdivided regions... so collecting folks for a meetup is something that all this can accomplish (like the easties are doing).

So,
1. Lets all meet and ride together for this sunday's bbch, from the Bellary rd turnoff (? seems like the best place considering a significant chunk are from the Vidyaranyapura area... We can actually also meet up after yelahanka new town, but i dont know any landmarks there. Others can suggest a better meeting spot). You can turn up for it even if you dont wanna race... And you can actually meet more cyclists than just the northies

2. Lets meet up somewhere common and hang out every now n then, like say, the Ganganagar Coffee Day/ some BEL rd place, CCD, pizza hut, etc. The purpose of this being, not just to meet each other, but to show folks around there are quite a bunch of people who are serious about biking. So that the folks on the fence will take up biking as a part of their life, and know that they can belong somewhere. (Frankly, if it werent for BBC, i wouldnt have done as much biking as i've done so far, just because it would be so hard to convince folks that its not insane to cycle 10km to work everyday. And i wouldnt have known about the lovely bikes that are available, and why its worth paying so much for).. And this will be an ideal place where you can bring your on-the-fence non-biking friends to, who only barely know how and why you are so passionate about cycling, check out others' bikes etc!

3. Long rides may intimidate newbies, and short rides are oh-so-boring as you cant get to any place interesting. But riding together is definitely an important aspect of cyclists knowing each other. And a ride to Hessarghatta (through some route that doesnt involve the NH anywhere) feels the most appropriate one.

Agree completely sudhir. The main aim (atleast for me) of sending the north bangalore mail is to know how many riders are in and around rather than splitting ourselves into 4 different sectors.

Agreed. Knowing that there are quite a few folks around is good.

I would say, we meet at 6:15 am, and start off at 6:30 latest. It would be good to be there a bit early to take a break before the race begins, and so that u can ride leisurely until then with no hurry.

Since i'm one of the volunteers this time, i'd have to be there early to help with stuff. So cant meet u guys at gkvk. But i'll be there at the race, and i'll be racing as well.

Evening to N.B.C
As the weekend come's close, the planning
begin's, and getting to know people who cyclin around our area,
instead of cycling solo's, we could ride in a group and make it
interesting, Last weekend shankar and I met up with Mohan, and rode to
nandi hills. It was an planned ride, which turned out to be a nice
ride. Hope to cycle with more member's from the north. I was wanting
to take the comming weekend as an opportunity to meet up with other
member's from N.B.C and ride to Hessarghatta, its abt 25 kms from
yelahanka. The road is good, altough the last time I had gone there
was a section of road which was being relayed.I hope that section is
done so that the road bike's dont have a problem in ridding. We could
start by 5:30am and and have breakfast there, we would be back by
10:30am-11am. So lets meet up this weekend and ride to Hessarghatta,
I'm looking forward to meeting other people :)

Definitely. Try it once a week initially, then slowly try increasing ur frequency.... there are folks here who do 40-50 km daily commutes.

The closest spot for bang northers is Pedals and Wheels at Malleswaram

A puncture repair kit (hand-pump, patches, glue, sandpaper/file, spare tube, allen keys/multitool), a speedometer/odometer, headlight, tail-light

I am Sriharsha and I stay in Vidyaranyapura (Near Nanjappa circle to be precise). Congratulations on your new Sporterra.

 

1. It is practical for sure. Since we are in early monsoons now, it is better to be prepared for the rains while riding. Ensure you have good/safe parking space at office, bike theft is increasing in the city day by day :(

 

2. Well, "service centers" going by the term, we dont have any in this area. However, we have lot of cycle shops (local mechanics) who can handle all bikes. There is one I go to before any ride to get my bike checked near Thindlu bus stand. (Let me know if you want the address).

 

3. Essential accessories: Since you are ride will be within city limits, you have cycle shops on every road who can do the basic first aid to your cycle. However, would recommend a HELMET for sure.

 

Just my two cents.

It was an amazing ride Sachin :) and thanks for the helpping hand on
the flat, got a first hand experience on how to change the flat, went
to the repair shop, apperently there were two puncture's on the tube
:) i gues it was tht trail ride which did it in :), will change the
tyre asap :) and Sudhir thanks for the trail ride, totally
unbelievable, dam i nvr thought tht the place was behind the backyards
:), a few hope to catch you guys on the next ride, sometime soon,
and more ppl decide to join in for such ride's frm tht area :)

nice untouched places.... completely green.... Lovely ride it was. Apart from the flat i had on the ride, i had many more thorns stuck on my tire that became evident only the next day. The ride off the bamboo stretch at GKVK could also be the culprit.
