Friends,

I've been cycling to work for about three weeks now, which is a
11-13KM round-trip ride. Wanted to attempt my first 100km ride on my
ACT 110 and was looking for a moderate route (not too many gradients).
I live in Indiranagar but am open to drive down to a starting point if
required. Suggestions/advice/company welcome.

Sudarshan,
Appreciate your willingness.
But a word of caution, assuming you have done only 26 kms max (based on your email below).
I will suggest you do couple of rides in 60 kms, 80 kms category before jumping directly to the century ride.
Its better to build up endurance gradually. Attempting a century ride all of a sudden might be taxing on the body and may cause injuries. Well it all depends on your fitness level as well.

Doctors in this list can advise better.
I was advised the same to build up a base of about 1000 kms before attempting century rides.

The last thing anyone wants is an injury :(
Have a safe ride.

Rgds,
Nalla.

Thanks, Nalla. Appreciate the advice. I am in no hurry for attempting
a 100km ride right away, as you say. Was just looking for a good route
so that I could try out a maybe a 50 km first (half-way) and gradually
move up to the 100km mark.

Someone suggested the road from Hosur to Krishnagiri. Is that a safe
route to try?

We often drive to CCD on Bellary road and do a 35/40/50 out and back
[as the time permits]. Its a wide road, few speedbreakers, has a wide
shoulder and a good surface.

Here's one route you could try: Merida Junction to Harohalli and back.
Comes to about 65-70km. It is a very straightforward route, just keep
rolling down all the way to Harohalli from Merida Junction. The climb
is demanding in sections but not all that bad. The bonus is the
excellent breakfast at Jayaram's canteen :) Don't miss the khara-bhat
no matter what!

Another route: Drive to the CCD on the way to International Airport.
Park you car there and ride all the way to Nandi Hills exit and back.
This will also come to about 50km I think.

Enjoy the ride! :)

Hi Sudarshan,

I'm also new to cycling - about 150KMs since I got my cycle 1.5 months ago. Keep me informed in case of any shorter rides (30-60KMs) over weekends.

@All,
My first mail to the group & feels good to be part of a wonderful bunch.
I ride a Merida MTA 510A.

I haven't driven through that roads  on bike. But driving on the service lane should be safer. But you dont have one althrough the route. So, should eb very very cautious.

And that reminds me something. When I was travelling to Airport couple of days before, I saw a cyclist (sure he was a pro or enthu) in his bike attire, drining water in one hand and riding the bike in the main road. He was not on the service lane. Now, this is unsafe in my opinion.

Ofcourse, he had helmet and everything you name for the bike. Felt like sharing this, just in case it helps or reminds someone to use service lanes atleast whenever and whereever available.

Thanks,
Mahesh

If u r looking for a 100 KM ride try cycling to MANCHANABELE DAM, this place has flat roads through out the trip, except few parts of the ride there are some mud roads but they are pretty smooth.

Acc to me, service lanes in most places are riskkier than the main road.... In service lanes there are vehicles going in both directions, where as its relatively safe on the left lane of the highway....

Hello,

I agree with Sudhir. The service lanes are hazardous with all kinds of
wayward traffic. The extreme left side on the Bellary highway to the
Airport is very safe because I have personally ridden in it for the
past 6 months without any problems.

sicne you live in indranagar and if like me you hate going on highways
and traffiked roads- there are plenty 50 to 80 to 100 km rides from
where you live eg from indiranagar- whitefield- hosakote- road to
devanhalli... or from whitfield if you turn right - to chikatirupati
and back or if you want it longer extend to sarjapur or bagalur ..
