Hello to Bangalore bikers,

I wish to take my 3 year old kid by cycle to her school (5 minute ride) for the next 3 years. Any recommendations for places where I can get a good child's seat?
If anyone wishes to sell theirs, I'd be happy to buy it off them.

Thank you,
Aravind

Hi Aravind,
I am very sorry but I cannot sell mine, I am using it for my son.

I had struggled a lot to find a good one. After much reading, I found that front mounted seat options are very limited if you have a hybrid bike/road bike (since there's much more space between the wheel and the bar in an MTB). There are front mounted seat options like shotgun (https://kidsrideshotgun.co.nz) or other options too. (I have seen quite a few ofd these in Bangalore - will try and find where they bought theirs from)

For hybrid bike, I found a lovely option in dolittlebikeseats(https://dolittlebikeseats.com). They are based in NZ and so if you have someone travelling from NZ or AUS, you can ask them to bring it along. They also ship to India but at a cost. I was lucky to find someone who returned from Melbourne amid the pandemic days and so they brought it for me.
It is a lovely seat, and my son really enjoys. We have used it for 2 years now (my son's 4). It is quite safe in my experience (though I have read some users reporting falls since the child put its feet into the wheel - scary but I think we can train/warn the kids not to do that)
Over years, it does create a smudged mark on the paint (despite having rubber protective surface etc) - but I think that its totally worth considering the experience.

Also, I strongly suggest you trying to get a front mounted seat - your child will love the ride for sure. You can also have amazing conversations with your kid in front. I had searched a lot around stores in Bangalore without success, but in case you have an MTB, there are quite a lot of front mounted seat options in US, Europe etc. You can find someone travelling back to get them for you. In case you have a hybrid, try getting dolittlebikeseat (unless you can find a better option)

Will try and find out if anyone else had got theirs locally.

Regards
Juny

Hi
Another person who stays near our home recently bought a child seat for his bike.
He bought it from this website called eassymall - it is a Chinese firm.

Have you checked this one?

I have a pannier rack variant of this carrier and I have been using it for the past ~6 years, initially for my daughter and now for my 3 yrs son.
I am fully satisfied Safety Wise, this has a seat belt with safety lock as well & the kid can sit very comfortably.
Moreover, it's very easy to fix/dismantle from the bicycle, it takes just a couple of seconds.
