Hi

Yes you can, the best is to convert your rear wheel to a HUB gear, easy and low maintenance comes from 3 gears, 7 gears, 8 gears, 11 gears depending on your budget.

All you have to do is change the existing hub of the rear wheel to HUB Gear Hub and spokes.

Use google to find and explore more about these options, Shimano Nexus is a proven Hub technology.

Hope this helps

Not that easy
Internal Gear Hubs are wider than regular non geared hub. So the rear has to be extended to do so.
Internal Gear hubs may require some maintenance as well - though most manufacturers claim not - but derailleur based system is more simpler and fixable

Shivakumar,

Why you would like to add gears to it?

From what I know, the mybike rear spacing is quite wide and maybe as wide as 135mm, standard spacing for MTB. I wonder if we could screw on a 7 speed freewheel on it and some twist shifters etc.. Hub gears are gonna be so expensive that you wish you'd bought a bike with hub gears instead of investing in a low end singlespeed MTB.

However, there is the issue of the drop out/ RD hanger - I'm not sure if we could just cut it up and/or weld an appropriate vertical dropout.

Considering all this, I have no doubt that including a 3 speed front is a much easier task and would involve sourcing the following

1. New 3/5 speed chain - Rs.200 approx cost (Hero)
2. Btwin triple MTB crank - Rs.1500-1600 give or take
3. Shimano tourney FD - Rs. 300-500 give or take
4. 3 speed front shifter - Rs. 500-1000
5. Cables and housing for the FD

Tools required would be the following

1. Crank puller
2. Cable and housing cutter (Or bolt cutter, if you are like me)
3. 14mm socket wrench (bit) and/or bit rod (to take out the existing crank bolt)
4. Allen keys 8mm, 6mm, 5mm, 4mm and 3mm

Still, even considering you would have all the tools, at 2.5k INR, I don't think its a worthwhile upgrade.

Regards,
Shankar
