Ok, this is for us mere mortals who cannot cycle 250 km in a day ...
yet :)

The plan, such as it may be, is to start at 5:30 AM from Cubbon Park
and tool around until 7:00 AM, when the St. Joseph's Indian high
school pool opens. Then swim for an hour, go to Airlines, belt
breakfast and a strong coffee. Finally, head off home to tell bored
family members long stories about our ride.

The timings are amenable to change. We can start earlier, finish
later ... whatever. But the pool closes at 9:00 AM.

And I also have no route planned ... But the breakfast and coffee at
Airlines is non-negotiable :)

Who wants to join?

Is this on Sat or Sun? Either way I think I can join anyway :-)

This is SO much more my "speed" than going to the outer rings of Saturn and back in a few hours, as many of you seem ready to do! But I am going to be shifting plastic trash in the Cauvery Basin on Saturday and as a result of that, plan to sleep as late as possible on Sunday....you haven't specified, Sanjay, which day it is. To get to Cubbon Park at 5.30am from my place at the rate *I* cycle, I must leave by 5am or earlier...

One day I *am* going to appear at one of these rides...but this day is not going to be this weekend.

But all of you, think of me as you pedal. For over 6 years, when I lived in Richmond Town ('89 to '96), I used to cycle early in the morning,  around Cubbon Park and environs, and sometimes take my newspapers, sit in the park and read them, and get back (there were no fences in Cubbon Park then.).....every day!  Totally loved it...

Am game if the pool allows one time swimmers. I was planning to goto
Sadashivnagar pool anyways. Kindly confirm and I will see how feasible
cubbon park is for me at 5:30 am :))

Guys,
The subject of this post is "Saturday ride and swim". SATURDAY :)

I found out about one-time swimmers - it's Rs.150 it seems!
Ridiculous!!
I pay for the entire month, so it doesn't matter for me, but you guys
need to see if you think it's worth it. We can even ride to the
Sadashivnagar pool. Let's decide tomorrow.

And Sri, yeah, let's go into Cubbon Park and ride around. It's been a
while since I got thrown out and am ready for it again :)

INDEED!!! :) I have paid 70 for NGV pool at one time... Why would one
pay that much for a pool when u can go for 16 bucks at Sadashivnagar
(the pool in all possibility is better! ;)). I am joining the St
Joseph's Boys High School Pool on Monday which is on Museum road.
Anybody keen on joining our swimming group - wed/sun are off. The pool
is decent for 600 bucks a month. How much is the pool u talk bout a month?

So what is the plan finally? Ride in Cubbon Park and then head to Sadashivnagar pool or what?

I need to head to work by 10:00 so if the pool plan will allow me to be at work by 10:00, I am in for both.

My number - 9731411220

- Naimisha

PS: Would I be allowed into the pool at that time or will it be a 'men only' thingie?

Shashank, Girish,
Thanks for a great ride! I really enjoyed it.

Mayank, maybe next time?

Lessons I learnt today:
#1 5:30 AM is too early for most people :)
#2 I'm worrying way too much about which bike to buy. A couple of
inches of frame height this way and that, brakes, Alivio v/s Deore,
Trek vs. Merdia, black vs blue ... all minor details ultimately. For
some distance, Girish rode my Hercules non-geared bike while I rode
his Trek. I just COULD not catch that guy! Uphill, downhill, bumps ...
it did not matter. He kept pedalling hard as though he knew of a
secret turbo-boost button on my Hercules that I myself did not know.
That's when it hit me - it's not about the bike (with apologies to
Boss Armstrong :) Or to put it more clearly - Strong legs are better
(and more fun!) than fancy gizmos anyday.
#3 You can't beat Airlines' coffee :)

Till the next ride,
-Sanjay.

Sanjay, have you thought about the Strida? www,strida.com or www.stridaindia.com.
Strida is a great experience. One you will want to pass on to your grandchildren.

Good learning. You just need to find the right people if you want to
enjoy the best parts of the morning.

Exactly !!! Equipment makes a much smaller difference than most
would like to believe.

Dude,
Thanks, but am looking for a bike that can also do some off road.

As for my grandchildren ... all they're going to get are the used
tyres from my Hercules. They can chase those down the road with a
stick, like their venerable grandfather did, ages ago. Pesky brats.

I knew I can't make it at 5:30 as I had to be ready for setting up a
stall at St Joseph's Boys High School. I missed you guyz by a coupla
minutes - we must have crossed on MG road. When you were at Trinity I
was on the other end of the MG Road! :)

I explored Cubbon Park instead. I don't know the roads very well inside
the park so explored one part of it. Went off the road and it was good
fun! :)) Then straight to Sadashivnagar pool - too crowded for me! :)
Sanjay how much do u pay for the St Joseph's Boys pool. I think this is
the Indian school next to Mallya Hospital?? I m joining this monday so
any good pool is good! :)

Hey Sanjay !
It was great meeting you yesterday ....and talking to you today.
Hope you got Anand Mulky on the phone.

Girish is a marathon runner and regularly does the Mumbai marathon as far as i know.
He is great motivator for me on looong rides since he NEVER gives up !
He was ,until recently on a bike similar to your present Hercules.
But he is admittedly happier on his new TREK.

Today we did the ORR from Hebbal to Sarjapur rd Jn and back.
Liked your route yesterday.

Still wondering what happened to all the others ( except Mayank) for Saturdays ride together ?
Shashank
