I had been Decathlon on Saturday to pick up MTB shorts and as I passed
by the cycling shoe section happened to see 8 XC cycling shoes which
was priced at Rs5,999 was being sold at Rs1,499 so picked up one right
away also picked up a double function pedal, so in total shoes and
pedals costed me Rs 2500, got it fixed on sunday went for a short ride
and practised how to clip on and out of the pedals, feels nice. I
think this is a very good deal and most us should make use of this.
Sorry to have posted it so late, I hope the offer still lasts.

Thanks Sudhindra... ever since I heard about these shoes on one of my CAM rides I wanted to buy them... the moment I read your mail.. I cycled to decathlon and got them... rode 16km and they were ok.. guess i will get to know their usefulness on longer rides and hilly terrain..

Caution: These shoes are pretty dangerous if we forget we have them on. Just imagine a sudden brake and u realise both your legs are stuck to the pedals! On the brighter side, the left shoe comes off easily, this asymmetric behavior, maybe intensional or I need more practice engaging and disengaging them.

Nalla: Thank you, sure I am enjoying the ride with the shoes. I did read you previous writeup and also sudhir's experience with his new shoes and pedals, today was an absolute day for testing them and I pretty much managed to cycle back home safely, thanks for the heavy downpour in the evening and the jam on the intermediate ring road this gave me ample practice to clip on and off the pedals, though I am still having problems in clipping on would get used to it after some days of regular riding.

Maddy : Your always welcome. You are absolutely right this can happen anytime, we need to be very cautious and you never know how the auto drivers, some insane motorcyclists may just brake ahead of you and you may be in for a surprise. So I have decided to be a little cautious for the next few weeks till I get used to these.

Hey Guys...

i went to decathlon this sunday and met a guy who was buying these
shoes.. he had a trek 4300... was getting it serviced.. couldnt get
his name though...
i was eyeing the Sport1 when we got talking and he told me about this
deal...

1 not so bright question maybe but could you tell me if these clip on
s really make a difference... as in i know they assist while you pull
up while pedalling and of course when you pedal down...
what i dont understand is how helpful is it??... (havent tried these
ever hence this question).. how much difference does it make as
against normal pedals...

kindly help me here please...

45 is sold out, thanks to me! :) I think it is an awesome deal...

they still have some stock of size 44, shud fit guys who wear size 9
cut shoes i think.

Yes, it does make a diff imo. not only the pull up part, since u r
locked in, you are more efficient (energy transmission, full circle
etc etc is better), when compared to normal toeclips or pedals where
you may keep shifting a bit, and there is some loss of energy (i dont
have the proof for this, but heresay). on longer rides, do stretch/
rotate your ankles once in a while, else in a 4-5 hours ride, there
may be some swelling on the toe. I experience it after about 7-8 hours
in cleats. its also important to experiment with ankle socks, normal
socks, cotton socks etc, and the one that is most comfortable and
works for you is what you need to wear on longish rides... my 2
cents.

I was the guy with the 4300 :)

I should not be commenting on clipless since I have only 2 hrs of
experience using them.

Still, I noticed one immediate difference. When using the platform
pedals, my toes keep moving on the pedals due to the road
imperfections (pot-holes, speed-breakers etc), and unconsciously I
would adjust my toes. So, eventhough I was not noticing it, I was
aware of the possibility of my feet slipping from the pedals.

When clipped on, I felt the ride to be more stable as there is no
possibility of slipping.

Luckose.

Did a 35km ride through several traffic jams from E.City to Innovative Multiplex, Marthahalli.
Final Review: I am happy! Of course, if I had bought them for their MRP, which is Rs6000, I would never have forgiven myself, but for Rs2400(both shoes and pedals), its worth it!

The ride becomes more stable since the legs don't slip off the pedals and well unhooking legs off the pedals is actually fun and makes the ride more adventurous.
Once I became confident with engaging and disengaging, I started deferring disengaging till the last minute, feeling the adrenaline gush :-)

But caution should be exercised at all times but if you are a calm person, its not much of a problem because you can start disengaging while falling ( :P ) and regain balance.

Hi Jayanth,
Is it me or the images are missing??...

Hi Luckose.. it was nice to meet you there.. i was on a short leash
wrt time and hence couldnt talk much..
the shoes sound interesting.. i think i ll buy them too... will go
tomorrow and see if i can find my size...

At the same time i am going crazy about the sport 1... can anybody
tell me how it is on bangalore roads.. am a little skeptical of high
speed rides on potholed roads and bumps handling (no shockers
hence...)...

Cheers, Sumit

Hi Sumit,
I bought my Sport1 on 11th July 2010. Ok.. let me correct it before Shankar replies on this.. My wife gifted it to me :)

Have done close to 800 kms on it till date, using only for weekend long rides and BBCh races.
So far i am pretty impressed with it and find it very good value for money.
It handles bangalore roads well, but be careful on bad roads though.

I havent got a single puncture yet... Touchwood :) I take care to check tire pressure everytime before i ride.
100 psi is recommended and max is 110 psi.

Luckose buddy, long time no see..

Rgds,
Nalla.

Before i correct huh? :P btw to add to buyer's confusion, I recently saw an amazingly beautiful red giant scr (2?) road bike with sora components for 27.5k INR at rr ulsoor. Whatever little interest I had in moving on to the dark side is getting a boost with such deals!

Shankar

Sumit,

I picked up the last pair from Decathlon day before yesterday (the
discount ones, that is) ! There are none available anymore, of any
size.

Nitin.
