That should say 24 gears (3x8, not 18), I suppose.  Curious to know -- has the hydraulic (disc brake) system given you any issues?  I heard from two folks that they have had issues with that (and one who seemed to not have had issues).

thanks,

I have the 4300d, and the brakes really rock. I have found them immensely useful esp for the kind of traffic we have in blore. It has saved me from atleast 3 crashes, when people or doors or the brake lights of another vehicle pops in front of you from nowhere.

Ps: it has just been a week of using it, so I cannot vouch for what goes into maintaining it. Heard that it is a little more trickier than mechanical disc brakes.

I don't know enough about the mechanics of these things, to say whether I understood what they were saying well enough, but in one case, I think they were saying it was some problem with the lining.  The chap at RR Cycles Madiwalawas was saying they had been trying for a while to rectify it, but were not having much luck.  (Now whether it's to do with the competence of the mechanic or not, I can't say.)  In the other case, I don't think I asked for details.

thanks,

+1 ... Saved me from 2 and both times because of auto barging in,

I have not faced any issues with the Hydraulic brakes, in face it
gives me more control esp in lanes with heavy traffic and down hill.
Maintainability is not an issue.
I am relocating out of India and unfortunately will not be able to
carry it along with me. Thats the reason why I am selling it.
TREK 4300D has been one of my best investments and I have not had any
issues maintaining it.

Say no more.... we now know where the problem is :)

FWIW, most high-end bikes require mechanics to actually read service
instructions.
