Please check specialised alibi too. I rode it for about 300 km. It was really good at handling, a good city bike and  solid tyre so puncture proof too. I liked it

Hello Amar,

Been using Trek 7100 (may be same family as Trek 7.1Fx) for the last 4 and half years or so.

Very good bike. Have clocked more than 8K KM and about a dozen century rides. Carried back in KSRTC Bus; Changed tyre size (than originally fit). Still going good.

Donot know about other bikes you have listed.

Trek 7.1Fx is a rigid fork while 7100 is not. That is probably the only difference. I think, it will be a better pick of the lot though I have no experience with the Bergamont and Montra. Having said that, I had ridden the Merida Crossway, abused it for 7 years. It was just too good. But I think, it was a bit on the heavier side.

Which one to pick then Bergamont Helix or Trek 7.1 FX - Based on your inputs shall start talking to dealers for discounts and check used ones for sale in good condition

Thanks

Trek 7.1 fx has a rigid fork as Opendro mentions. Bergamont Helix has front suspension..

IMHO that is not really needed in a commute cycle - while I haven't used a cycle with front sus ever (so maybe I'm not really qualified to speak on this topic?), I _think_ rigid fork is fine. I have used a Schwinn sportterra for 15k kms, mostly commute; used my wife's Trek 7.1 fx for about 2k and recently been using polygon fixie for commute. All rigid forks.. My route has reasonably good roads (but I have occasionally used these on bad stretches as well).

But your preferences may be different (always that disclaimer, eh?). Front suspension might be easier on the wrists and hands a bit if roads are not great.

Didn't go through the responses from others. I would say if you are going for a hybrid, go with rigid fork. Preferably a steel fork (rest of the frame being Al alloy). (Other than SS/Fixies, I don't think there are any good all-steel hybrids in the Indian market at this time.)

Ride comfort vs efficiency can be adjusted with tyre width + pressure. I would_not really recommend a hybrid with suspension fork, though I suppose there are some good ones in the market in that category. (Schwinn, Bergamont, Trek, Giant come to mind offhand.)

Hybrids do handle bad roads reasonably well; again, tyre width & pressure can be varied for that. Plus some riding techniques too. Unless you really plan to do off roading, I would say consider a hybrid (rigid fork). Moreso if you are considering long rides.
