Hello Everyone, I am proposing that we go on our next long ride on
30th August 2009? This will give a good 2 weeks for those of us who
are preparing for the Kaveri Trail Marathon to focus on running.

How about doing Mekedatu - The grand confluence of Cauvery and Arkavathy?

Thanks,
Yogesh.

Route : Left turn at the last "circle" at Kanakapura.

80kms or so in all, used to be broken roads for the first few kms after Knkpura, but awesome roads after that. Narrow single laner, slopes a plenty, lush green + hills on both sides.

Upto Sangama is doable - post that is a coracle ride + trek to Mekedatu.

Could take a diversion to Chunchi Falls as well.

I'm not missing this one!

Rgds,
Sameer

How long is the coracle ride? How many bicycles do you think it can
accommodate?

Also, I see the road at the left turn going from Kanakapura road. On
Google maps, It appears to be headed in a direction away from
Arkavathy river. Is the Google Maps not showing something?

Thanks,
Yogesh.

If there is no flood one can cross the river by carrying cycle on his
shoulder. One can lead every one with long stick by checking deep.
those boat fellows charge nearly Rs 30 to 50 per head. length is not
more than 100 meters I guess. last time two of us crossed that reiver
by walking with carrying food+water for 30people.

but at the same time there are some points where very deep and advised
to be very carefull who does not know swimming.

after sangama point(where we suppose to cross the river) its only 3km
to reach meka datu.

I've not been there during the monsoon.  Jan - March the stretch is easily crossable by foot.

How about we play it by the ear as we did on Sunday? We can get to the
point of crossing and decide to head off to Chunchi falls if crossing
the river is a concern. So many things are unpredictable on a long
ride.

Have posted on bikeszone.com as well
(http://www.bikeszone.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5):

Next long ride on Sunday, 30th August 2009.

Description: Test your endurance.
Destination: Mekedatu (or) Chunchi Falls - The grand confluence of
Cauvery and Arkavathy
Starting point: Family Mart Junction. On Google maps this is the
Junction of Kanakapura Road and Outer Ring Road
Assembly time: 5:30AM
Departure time: 6:00AM
Breakfast at Idly point (Darshini on the highway) in Kanakapura
Bring/buy your own lunch at Mekedatu around 11AM
Starting back at 12noon
Return mostly between 4:45pm and 8PM (depending on your capacity and capability)

Route: Kanakapura road up to Kanakapura. Turn left at the last circle
in Kanakapura and head down until Mekedatu.

Thanks,
Yogesh.

PS: I am still looking for confirmation on the route because I do not
see the road on Google maps.

alt route: Sangam is always a great idea to go, but on sundays this most incredible  landscape  is so tourism polluted! road wise the Bhimehswari ride is better, the Sangam road is narrow, not in good shape and lots of bus and other frivoulously fast  and sometimes drunken traffic. and further its almost identical to last sundays trip.
what about this alternative for  august  30 ?
family mart junction, Harohalli (breakfast at Jayarams canteen next to the old temple)-Maralvadi, Hunsanhalli-Anchetti-ghat section with waterfall and streams -Denkanikotai, anekal-banerghatta-Bangalore.
sligthly easier road to Hunsanhalli is continue to kanakapura, across the bridge of Arkavathi to Kodihalli and on to hunsahalli (wider  road, less ups and downs)
t his also makes close to 200 km, all on small but good enough roads all very scenic.
vasu. pradeep and freinds will remember the Anchetti ride from January. lots of good  joints for hearty food evenly spaced out , as created for us bikers only! on the way

not t hat I am saying anything against Mekedatu ride, just it sso similar to bhimeshwari ride that we could give it a gap of 2 to 3 months before choosing this route.
