Mallik,

What we should do is get a good map and chart a course for say a 3 day trip around the most scenic places and most lonely roads in the Sahyadri (we should do the same for coorg too). Then we transport our bikes on 1st day by car or bus and stay at some Hotel overnight and prepare for the trip. 2nd day is medium difficult bike ride, camp 2nd night, 3rd day is hard bile ride, camp 3rd night, 4th day is medium bike ride and 4th night is back to Hotel. 5th day early AM we checkout and head back by car / bus. We can keep 1 car with us for emergency as well as carrying camping gear, cooking stuff, etc.
We should try Coorg 1st followed by Sahyadri and maybe Kerala / Rajasthan for longer trips.

Hey Madhu, Mallik

Taking everything by car is an excellent idea !

For places to visit, I would recommend you try off-beat places like Kota Betta, Chelavara Falls and the road from Bhagamandala to Karike (that's a beauty). The regular places you can do on other means of transport ;)

Hi Guys,

Good plan, must try this some time soon!! If we are doing rides just
around coorg, then why not stay at the hotel instead of tents for all
the days.

Cheers

Staying at hotels is an option. Camping for 2 out of 4 nights does the following:
1. Less restriction on routes
2. Fun of camping and "roughing" it.
3. Reduction of cost to that extent

Now how about some likely dates huh! shall we get this thing rolling? Around next long weekend?

Hi Madhu,

Infact I also like the camping part, never done it before. But this
what I was thinking before:

1. Can have Mug of beer and good food before sleep if you are staying
in hotel :)
2. Why camp unless you are doing more then 100KM single way. Also no
point in going to places like mangalore (135KM), camp and come back.
3. No hot water for wash.
4. Have to have driver following us all the way with tent etc
5. Delays in the morning due to the camping. What if lots of ppl want
to do this trip and we don't have enough tents :)

I have nothing against camping, just wanted to delay it till the
Sahyadri trip ;)

Cheers
Gaurav

Can have beer while camping too. The car is carrying it. If no car you can carry it!

2. Why camp unless you are doing more then 100KM single way. Also no

Why not?  see below for more on this.

3. No hot water for wash.

Exactly. That is what camping is all about! back to basics and minimalism. You get a bit dirty. Till you get a bit dirty you will never realize how good a hot shower and clean bed are! Of course do you realize that you will see the sky and stars through the roof of your tent and hear the wind in the trees and also sleep at sunset (close to anyway) and wake up at sunrise? If you have never roughed it camping then you have really missed something!

4. Have to have driver following us all the way with tent etc

Point and difficulty being? :-)

5. Delays in the morning due to the camping. What if lots of ppl want

No delay at all. You wake up, brush, perform ablution in great outdoors military camp style, pack up and good to go. You find a village selling coffee and idli and there's your 5 star breakfast (it will taste like one trust me).
If not enough tents rent or buy. It is a long term buy just like a bicyle.

I have nothing against camping, just wanted to delay it till the
Sahyadri trip ;)

I am game for Sahyadri or Coorg. Coorg will be easier to tryout. But hey bring it on! Now how about some dates huh guys?
