Hi,

Which of these is a better one for trails ( Specialized Hardrock disc/ Bergamont vitox 7.3 ) ? I tried test riding both and couldn't make out any difference, as I am a beginner.

Specialized has (mechanical disc + non lockable front suspension) vs Bergamont which has (hydraulic discs + lockable suspension) . Do these matter a lot ?

I will also occasionally be using it to ride to work.

Also, are there other better options from Scott/Giant/Cannondale in this range of 35k around ?

Thanks,
Vasan

I recently bought a Hardrock SE 29 and have put about 200 km on it. It's a lovely bike. Lack of lockout shouldn't bother you too much for normal trail and commuting. Regarding the mechanical vs hydraulic disks,  you don't have to bother about cable wear and tear and replacement, but then again, I ride a lot and have never had to replace brake cables more than once a year (which I do, whether they are really worn out or not), so I guess it's one of those YMMV (your mileage may vary) questions.

Don't know specifics of each bike but hydraulic vs mechanical brakes and lockout vs no lockout is a no brainer. All other things being equal, you would want to buy a bike with hydraulic disc brakes and lockout.

hardrock is recreational MTB..will be awesome for city riding but am not sure about trails. Even specialize markets it as recreational and Rockhopper as trail bike.
I think you can also consider TREK Xcaliber series and Cannondale.

Thanks for the reply guys. I picked up Specialized RockHopper. I'm not sure how i can compare it with the rest as I have not ridden any of the others, but RockHopper feels great riding on roads! Yet to take it to the trails.
