Hi,

I was making a slide on the bikes that people can consider to begin -

Road Star:

Hero Jet 3200
Atlas Goldline 3300

Single Speed (Road Racer)

Hero Hawk 3800 + 1000 for gear
BSA Mach 4200 + 1000
BSA Hybrid 3200 + 1000

6 speed
Hercules Turbodrive 4600
Hero DTB 4400

High End

21 speed Steel
Raleigh RS 100 6000
Raleigh Elevation 7000

Aluminium
Hero Thunderbird 21s 6300
Hercles ACT 105 21s 7500

BTwin
Rockrider 5.0 21s 9500 (aluminium)
Rockrider 5.1 21s 9500 (steele)

Schiwnn > 12K
Merida > 17K
Trek > 17K
Giant > 18K

Recommend Hybrids for City Riding:

BSA Hybrid 3200 + 1000
Hercules ACT 110 21s 9800
Schwinn 12K, 15K, 18K
Trek 7. 1 19.5K
Trek 7100 21.2K
Merida Crossway 22K
Canondale Quick 5 24K
Kona Dew 24K

Let me know if you have any suggestions to improve on this. Any bike
that is better not listed here - I avoided Cyclone and such which people
have bad experience with so also Firefox & La Soverign or Lumalas.

Nice initiative to put the list of decent bikes available in India.
Will surely help beginers and others.

Any particular reason for not including Firefox, La-Sovereign and
Lumala.
If it is the lack of knowledge then maybe people who own these bikes
should pitch in and list the bikes they think are good.

For what I know Firefox target is a good MTB and La Navigator is a
good Hybrid (~ 10K).

And what about a list of road bikes?

Cheers
Pankaj

Mayank,

Nice initiative. Such a list might get both the budget and the willing-
to-pay-more buyer on the saddle faster.

Besides the prices it might also help to point to some reviews on the
web and of course as someone already suggested references to shops who
might stock them.

Thinking, a rudimentary XL based bike selection tool (listing down the
features of the bikes - frame type, gears, shock absorbers and the
like ; price and the stores that might stock them along with reviews
on the web) would help.

Best Regards
Arvind

Mayank,
This will be very useful.
Please do add folding bikes details as well, like Strida, Hercules foldman and others (if any).

Rgds,
Nalla.

Hi.

Great work and initiative.

I am looking for a bike within Rs.10k budet.  I browsed and came across the following bikes:

Hero N Hance,  Rs. 8700 (?)
LA Spectrum 21 Speed Bicycle 26"  Steel & Alloy versions.
La Sovereign 24 Force    for Rs. 10k (?)
Hercules Ryders Ridge    For Rs. 9600 (?)
Hero Octane ORION    Rs. 6600 (?)
Avon Hyper    Rs. 3315 (?)

I liked these bikes just based on their price and looks.  Looking for some opinions on these models also.  I greatly appreciate.. Thanks.

Hello Somasunder,

I am 50+ as well. I would suggest first checking the frame size based on your height.

If the frame size is larger than necessary, you will end up with a heavier bike and possibly back pain along with other aches.

I have a 4.5 year old Firefox target which has been reasonably good. It needs new wheels due to wear & tear, but is otherwise a decent bike.

So, I would first look for a bike model that has more than one frame size and will fit your requirements. The number of gears is not as important as you would imagine.

 Regards,
