Trek 7100 is a good bike. I have been using it for the last couple of years for  50kms+  long rides, without any problems whatsoever. I strongly recommend it from my personal use experience.
Best,

If you want to try alternatives before you finalize, you could try "Schwinn Sporterra Sport".

Hey Chiranth,

I have been using a Schwinn Sporterra Sport 2012 model and just love the ride. Not sure how Trek is 'cause I have not tried it, but surely recommend the schwinn.

Best of luck on the selection and wish you happy riding times on your new bike.

Cheers,

Prashant

Howz the Firefox hybrid bikes?

This is the one which I found in their websiet (Firefox RoadRunner - 21speed):
http://www.firefoxbikes.com/Hybrid_RoadRunner_21Speed.html

Howz the riding comfort of this bike when compared to Trek7.1?  Is there a major difference?

Regards,
Harish.

My suggestion - get a good mountain bike - use it for a while - if you feel it is not as good in the city fit it with slicks. If you get a bike with the 8 button tires - they perform really well though I am not happy about their life (too many punctures on mine and already see a need to change them).

I am not for hybrids having used one for 2.5 years. If I went for one I would choose between Kona Dew and the one from Bergamont - both serve well for touring as well.

Thanks everyone for quick responses :) .. So far what I get is, TREK 7100 is popular, but Quick 5 and sporterra sport should be tried before buying anything else!! :)

@mayank: Interesting thought! but I really don't know what is an 8 button tire? example please! :) and where do you get Kona bikes in bangalore?

Pitching in to vote for the Trek 7.1FX -- the 7100's cousin sans a
front shock absorber.
Test them both to see which one you'd prefer.

Hello Chiranth,

The best hybrid cycle that I have bought till date is Bianchi Spillo, then the frames used to be made in France and the rest of the assembling used to be done in Chez, with shocks below its seats (sorry forgot the technical name for that) and hydraulic shocks it made for a ideal ride. There is also the option to lock the front shocks in case more performance in required.

It is still the ideal choice between performance and stability.

Of all the bikes that I have that is still my best buy, worth every penny.

Best of luck!!!

Regards,
Gourav

I used a Trek 7100. It is good for certain kinds of riding but limits your options on weekends and my advise is to take as generic a bike as possible.

@mayank: Interesting thought! but I really don't know what is an 8 button tire? example please! :) and where do you get Kona bikes in bangalore?
8 button tire from Kenda is available with most MTBs these days (wonder why?) - giants last year models, Canondales most models, KHS higher end models. For pics u can google. They are slightly soft tires so don't work well but take a psi of upto 80 so u get a very good ride at around 70 psi upwards on a good road comparable to a hybrid.

I have a Schwinn searcher sport which is a hybrid with front shocks, like Trek 7.1.
I've been using it for daily office commute for an year.
Even with these shocks I felt the need for a proper MTB when I did off-roading. Especially the Sarjapur trail where BBCh race happened last, I really felt I needed an MTB and planning to buy one soon for weekend rides. Now I feel I should have bought an MTB and got it fitted with slicks for office commute so that I could swap the tires with MTB ones for weekend off-roading.
My suggestion is for you to go for an MTB (may be a 29er bcoz you can make commutes faster, but not sure if you can get a 29er for 25k) and then get slicks in case you think there is too much friction and it is slowing you down. Moreover the comfort level with an MTB is much better, you know how Bangalore roads are :(

It is not just about shox. The tires give you control as well - a lot of the falls in my rides I could have avoided if I had better control - MTBs are far more predictable that way! :)

Hi,

I too use the quick5. Use for daily office commutes and weekend rides. Its very light, smooth and quick. The ride is bouncy though and you need to be careful of bumps and potholes. The last point must be common across almost all hybrids.

Hi,

I heard that quite a few have recommended Firefox and TREK bikes. How is the service provided by Jayant Cycles now a days? The service that is provided at St. Johns Road is really commendable though its expensive, but its really good work therefore after looking at the bike it definitely alleviates the pain. Even RR cycles do a great work, its worth going to their store at Ulsoor; one might be taken in for a surprise, they have deals running all the time.

But in case you want to trouble Rohan then please do so, he is still the best around.

Regards,
Gourav
